  1. First off i would not get ride of your UVB lighting. Now wail there is controversy over there helpfulness They do not harm the animal and have been proven to prevent Metabolic bone disease in animals with D3 lacking diets. Also i would never turn off the filter. There was a point were my filter got clogged and the few days it was clogged my turtles movement and activeness went way down. Not running a filter will make your turtle more likely to bacterial and fungal infections. One thing you may want to try is feeding live feeder guppies wail not that nutritious they will sometimes make a picky turtle eat. I also would make the main part of his diet the pellets if you can because they are nutritionally complete.

  2. try taking him to the petshop and asking about it. he might just be a petite eater

  3. You have gotten some very poor advice.

    1. Habitat is a bit small. Aim for a mostly filled 20L gallon tank for the next few years, but figure on about a 50-70 gallon tank by the time it is an adult.

    2. The described diet is not real great. Avoid freeze-dried foods and plants (except for the Zoo-Med 'Can'o' whatever line as snacks). For a young Musk Turtle, try about 1/2 good, name brand pellets (Mazuri, ReptoMin, etc.), and 1/2 live or frozen/thawed insects, worms (especially bloodwoms), small live shrimp or crayfish, etc.

    3. It takes a few days, up to almost a couple of weeks, for a new turtle to settle down. Make the habitat perfect, then leave things alone- don't hover over the tank, give it some peace and quiet, and let it settle down.

    4. Keep the water very clean. In fact, we recommend a filter 2-3 times bigger than the tank since these are such messy eaters.

    5. Dump the UVB/UVA light. It provides little if any documented benefit for turtles getting a good diet, and the brand name pellets contain the vitamin D3 the light helps offer.
