Why not do a little of both?  If you're planning on playing online, the minimums are a lot lower for every game, whether it be poker, sports betting, or casino games.  Check http://dagus-statistics.com/reviews.htm for a list of reputable sites where you can take your pick depending on your mood!  Hope this helps.

Poker gives you the best odds of winning, but to truly win, you have to really grind it out.  If you have a lot of time and patience poker is the way to go.  If you want a quick fix bet it on basketball...

I play poker for a living and win more than I lose, but even good players can lose...there is no guarantees in life except death, taxes, and the two of clubs.

Poker is fun but there is no point in watching a basketball game if there isn't any money on it.

You can do research on the team and have better odds with the basketball game. OTOH, if you're a good poker player you can make some money too.

I would go with the poker game because you are more involved and it is more pro-active. With B-ball, you're just a spectator hoping for the best.

Are you a basketball fan? A career gambler I met in Las Vegas said to never bet on a sport that you are a fan of - you're can't be impartial enough to make a wise bet. So, if you're a basketball fan, you should stick to poker.
