  1. I am a travel agent.  Here is the scoop.  If you stay in a guarantee status, then you just might get upgraded (most of our clients do) to a higher level on the ship for FREE.

However, if you stay in a guarantee, then you will be placed by the cruise line, not by your travel agent.

So, if you want to be in a particular place, like by the elevators or midship, then you should go ahead and pick your cabin.

If you are flexible, then stay in the guarantee, take a gamble, and you just MIGHT get upgraded.  Good luck.

  2. i book that way all the time .. where your room is doesn't really matter .. i have even booked group bookings that way .. the earlier you book the better your chance of a good upgrade. Carnival has always given me a upgrade but i book bout 7 or 8 months ahead. some times is a better deck but i have gotten a window on a inside booking.. i say save your money and throw the dice..

  3. I have booked a gurantee stateroom before.  There is nothing really wrong with it.  Guarantee staterooms are just the same as any other room the difference is that the cruise line gets to determine where your room is located instead of you picking out the room number.  With a guarantee stateroom you get a cheaper rate and are gauranteed the category selected (for instance if you book an oceanview guarantee you are guaranteed and oceanview stateroom on any deck).  You can get upgraded to a higher deck level by booking the guarantee room also.  So if you really do not have a preference of where you want to be on the ship then go with the guarantee.  If you are picky about the location and want to be either in the front, middle, back, or on a specific deck then you need to pay the extra money to select your room in that area.  If you book the guarantee room you will know your rooming assignment when you receve your cruise tickets.

I would love to help you plan your cruise.

  4. The guarantee staterooms are not specific rooms.  It just means that the cruise line can put you in whatever cabin they choose, as long as it is at least in the category you paid for ["inside", "outside", etc].  The location may or may not match your taste or needs - you may be under the late-night disco, or under the pool deck, etc.  You may also get upgraded to the best cabin in that category or even into another category.  You just don't know.

If you're willing to take your chances to save a few dollars, then go for it.  Myself, I like to choose my cabin, in order to avoid a "bad" location.

  5. I never bother which cabin I get, I only use it to sleep/shower in
