  1. Jordan, I sure understand the temptation to breed her. The dream of a lovely foal, (offspring of a beloved mare) flying around the paddock is irresistible.

However, I know that weight WILL increase the pain.

And, if you have to give her painkillers, it will negatively affect the foal.

It just won't be fair to her, to have to stand and watch her little one playing, as mares love to run and play with their foals..but she will only feel like standing and watching. OR face the pain of doing what comes natural..playing with baby..

Every time I look on petfinder.com, I see so many wonderful rescued foals and young horses! I want them all!  If I could take on another, I would surely rather rescue one of those..especially the foals from the 'Primarin' mares..which are all in rescues.

In today's economy, so many are having to turn their horses over to rescues..

I would sure advise you to see if there are any in your region that are just too good to pass up!

If you anywhere in North America, just enter your own location info, and check'em out:

  2. I f you have the answers why do you ask?  JUst curious.  I am horse person and am trying to find new home for our horse without losing our shirt.  There are lots of horses in our area that are being let loose in the desert because people can't afford them.

I am not familiar with the NaviculaR but am just anwering and asking my question from a general horse point of view.  Look on Appaloosa's 4 sale adn you will see many are on there for quite a while.

If you insist on breeding her I'd from common sense point ofview have a buyer lined up in advance!!!! And also prepare for vet bills just in case by setting aside a credit card that has good balance available.

The one thing I know from life and its related to kids is that when having kids no two experiences are the same.. You can have trouble one time and not the next and then critical care emergency 5 kids down the road.  I don't imagine its too different in horse world. :)

    Good Luck

  3. You can't ride her anymore because carrying your extra weight is painful.

She'll gain TWICE your weight in her pregnancy, and she'll have to carry that around 24/7.

Navicular syndrome is very painful, and I wouldn't put my horse through that just so I can get something *I* want from her.

If you want a baby, they're practically giving them away everywhere because the price of hay is so high. Please consider giving one of these other babies a home. Your Babee can have a buddy, you can get a baby to raise, and Babee won't be in pain. If you really love her, you won't do this to her.

I can't imagine any vet actually approving breeding a navicular mare.

  4. Why? There are so many horses out there now. The cost to raise a foal, is outragous. The extra weight of the pregnancy, will affect your mare's feet. Will you have the time to train a foal. There are alot of things to consider.

  5. No!  Navicular, while not hereditary, still isn't something that means its ok to breed. Certain conformational things, like small feet, upright pasterns and more will contribute to navicular disease.

In addition, pregancy is probably the worse thing you can do for her- the extra weight will put her in A LOT of pain and potentially significantly lame her. After caring a foal, she may not be able to walk properly.. do you really want to do that to her?

Please do not breed her, you will just make the navicular worse.

  6. no please keep the horse population down but whats one foal breed her

please help my on my question
