  2. Honestly? I don't think you should, yet. It's a lot of work and a lot of money. You also need time to prepare their food. You need to consider where the fry will end up once they're grown (will you be finding them homes? selling them to a pet shop? do you plan on keeping them, and if so, do you have the space, tanks, and accessories?). Have you done all of your research? I was considering breeding my bettas once and realized it wasn't a good idea for me after I read about it. Another thing that stopped me is that I realized that I'd be contributing to the huge population of bettas that are already rotting away in stores. Also, keep in mind that the mating process for bettas can be dangerous - they're fighting fish, after all.

But if you go through with it, here are some pointers:

Sun dried shrimp is not an appropriate food for betta fry. A microworm culture should be bought two or three weeks prior to spawning, since such tiny food cannot be bought ready for use anywhere. Brine shrimp eggs are also good (the newly hatched shrimp are good food and they usually begin hatching 48 hours after being set up), as is boiled egg yolk. The fry need to eat constantly. You will need 50 to 100 jars for the fry.

You should start jarring as soon as you see signs of aggression. More about this: http://www.bettatalk.com/jarring_young_b...

One more thing - one or both parents can be injured badly, so be prepared for this. Be ready to treat their wounds (aquarium salt, Melafix, etc) and to treat infection if it happens. Stress coat is useful as well, since they will be stressed out. It replaces the slime coat (protective coating over their body) that may be lost and will soothe them.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I hope this helps.
