Should i bring a M14 to defend myself

if i go camping out in bear country, i may encounter a violent grizzly or black bear, or i might come across a serial killer because i heard about campers getting attacked by psychos out in the wilderness. so is an m14 a good self defense weapon, much more powerful than a AR-15 and i think it can kill a bear! i dont like shotguns because they are only close range.

If you're concerned about attacks from grizzlies and do not like shotguns, you will want a rifle chambered for a cartridge at least as powerful as the .338 Win Mag. The M14 and AR15 are not suitable for stopping a charging grizzly.

In regards to shotguns, the 12 ga would likely suffice with slugs. Bear in mind that any shooting for self-defense will occur at close range. If the threat is outside the practical range of a handgun, it is almost always better to retreat.
