  1. The quintessential pet bird, the canary has enjoyed steady popularity for more than a century. Its beautiful song and color and its charming nature have endeared it to many bird enthusiasts. All canaries originate from the same species, but there are three types, or breeds, popular in the United States: color-bred canaries, type canaries and song canaries. “Their behavior is active, jaunty, alert, happy, The health concerns are where do you place their cage, it should NOT be in front of a window, at least 3 feet away with indirect sun light, due to drafts which is the biggest killer of our little friends. Also Teflon, cooking in small quarters with no ventilation using frying pans made with Teflon can be fatal to canaries, for caution there should be enough ventilation.” - David Benites, President of the San Diego County Canary Club and the President of the American Association of Spanish Timbrado Breeders.

Compatibility/Disposition: Can do well in groups, however, males are generally not compatible with each other. When mixing varieties, keep only females together. Friendly and gregarious. Generally does not want to be handled, but will bond with owner.

Vocalization: Many varieties and tones; usually, the c**k will sing; hens have a vocalization more like a chirp

  2. no, they kill each other

try buying a male and a female canary they will mate

and might make babies,it will save u

    time and money.

  3. If you buy 2, they will fight and none of them will socialize with you. They will socialize only between themselves.

Want necessarily 2, buy them with separate cages.

Later edit: I didn't say they aren't sociable or friendly. But they won't be with humans, if they are together. They have to separated in order to approach to you.

  4. if you buy 2 they will only fight, unless they were raised together young. I have had canaries 8 years and i have had males that cooperate, but if you are planning on getting 2 males have 3 females always more females then males so they dont fight as much

  5. i was tell by a pet shop never put two males in the same cage because they will fight

  6. I would only get one because if you have two males they will fight or you could buy a male and female. good luck :) !!

  7. I disagree with what is being said.

People always assume that two male animals in the same territory will cause friction between them.

But with canneries its different. They are very sociable and love to play. Canneries are usually friendly birds and tend to get along with each other.

I think you should get two canneries  so they keep each other company during the day when you are not there.

Canneries need to entertained and it is common that canneries can become depressed. Boredom is the first sign  of an unhealthy bird.

If in doubt talk to an avian vet or the pet shop owner before you purchase.

    Good luck.
