Should i buy a 2002 Mazda Protege ES or a 1999 VW Passat GLS?

2002 Mazda Protege ES has 87,000 miles on it while the 1999 VW Passat GLS has 105,000 miles on it. Both cars are $5,000 and have the same features. So which is the better deal?????

protege is better vw are german and expensive to fix and vw are usually unreliable not too bad but not good

I would go for a VW~Without a thought. Have you ever driven/owned a Mazda? They are crappy.
