I am going to buy a 32 inch LCD tv for my ps3 and i can't decide to get the Samsung LN32a550 or the Sharp LC32D64U. They are both the same price and similar in terms of definition and other features. The only major differences is that the samsung has a better contrast ratio by about 5000 and the sharp has better sound with 5 additional watts per speaker. I am mainly looking for good video quality rather than good audio quality so should i go with the Samsung tv? What do you think?

  1. Ah, the A550 vs Aquos D64U.... I had the exact same dilemma about a month ago except with the 46" models. I originally bought the A550 with a home theater system bundled for $1799 at futureshop as a wedding gift for my brother. On delivery day they screwed up their stock so I switched to the Aquos D64U which is very similar spec wise but slightly more expensive in store.

Both are excellent screens but the A550 is newer (march 2008) whereas the D64U is an aging model. Samsungs tend to look much brighter and more vibrant so a lot of people gravitate to them in the showroom. However, they are a little TOO bright and might irritate your eyes after a while of viewing. The Sharp is not quite so overpowering and the colours are reportedly more neutral and "film like". And yes, the speakers are supposed to be excellent on the Sharp for a tv.

Personally, I could happily live with either although I do like the thinner bezel on the Aquos. The Samsung has a thick but still attractive black glossy bezel but it somehow makes the viewable screen area seem relatively smaller...

  2. Get the samsung and hook up the ps3 with an hdmi cable.  Not for nothing  5 watts really isn't much and if sound is deal you can always hook it up to your stereo or buy a decent table top stereo for 100 bucks.

  3. the 550 is consumer reports best contrasting tv for the price.

do your research, samsung is the best on the market..

make sure you always buy a protection agreement with any tv no matter where you go. i know, the 5000 isnt a huge difference actually, but sharp isnt to bad either.

but, samsungs are the way to go

  4. Sony, Samsung and Sharp are the top 3 TV makers sales wise and I think it's in that order. I have a Sharp Aquas 32 LCD that is awsome. Samsung seems to be a little more expensive then Sharp but all three make great TVs.

  5. I'm on my 2nd Samsung! They are c**p! Beware! They have really rude custermor service. They will try to get out of paying for anything! SCUM! DON"T GET SAMSUNG!
