I will be using the pass in italy for venice-milan or vice versa. then milan to bologna. Then bologna to rome. Then a week or two, i will be in france, i will use it again from the airport to the train staion and to strasbourg and back to paris. Is it worth it? And just to ask if i can use the eurail pass in the buses in paris? I know i can use it in the metro's right? Im kinda confuse. Please help!

  1. I don't think that you can use a eurail  pass in the Metro.

Because the metro is ran by a different company than our trains.

Here is the link to the metro.

Now regarding your initial question. I think that it is worth buying the eurail italy-france pass if you intend to travel a lot by train and it is a very nice way to discover a country... or two.

  2. Let's see. It's your travel days that count, meaning the days you will spend connecting cities. So your actual travel days are 6.

    Individual fares :

    -------------------

    1-Venice-Milan :               $34

    2-Milan-Bologna:              $37

    3-Bologna-Rome:             $59

    4-Airport-Paris:                 $20

    5-Paris-Strasbourg:          $70

    6-Starsbourg-Paris:          $70

                                   Total : 290$

    Eurail France - Italy Pass:

    -----------------------------

    6 days within 2 months :  374$

    7 days within 2 months:   408$

So no, I don't advice you to buy a Eurail Pass. It's not a good value in your case. Buy point-to-point tickets. It will save you 84$.

PS: You cannot use the eurail pass for the metro.

  3. You should price out your exact schedule to see if it makes sense to buy the rail pass. Generally speaking the pass is not really that big a bargain or no bargain at all.

It cannot be used on buses or the metro in Paris.

P.S. The itinerary you describe seems quite odd. Do you have specific reasons for taking such a circuitous route?

  4. My wife and I were lucky bec by accident we discovered how to make the best use of our Eurorail passes that saved us money and reduced our lodging costs simply by the fact that we used our number of days very wisely by booking destinations out to the farthest location which result in sleeping in overnight accommodations aboard the fast European trains.

We actually went from Paris to Madrid via Eurorail, then drove a rental car to Barcelona and then eurorailed to Rome took a rental car to Florence then dropped the car at the border and had a great time on the French Rivera beaches Nice, Cannes and caught the train back to Paris. My wife is fluent in several languages incl French so on the shorter legs, we found it cheaper just to buy the train tickets out of our own pocket.
