  1. no, Volkswagen's are notorious for being reallllllly unreliable!

  2. Have it inspected by a good VW mechanic and get a warranty if you can find one. VW's got pretty bad in reliability in the 90's, (Even had a VW dealer agree with me on that point when I was buying a used Pontiac from them) but later models are supposedly getting better.

  3. no...go to edmunds.com

  4. VW and Honda engines will go round the clock thrice with no problems (can't beleive someone put VW's are unreliable on here- rubbish!!) . Maybe go for something less thirsty though - even a GTI would be easier on the wallet!

  5. Well right of the get go, was the timing belt done at 90,000?  Or is it 20,000 overdue?

To do the T-Belt job correctly and replace everthing that spins with the belt your looking at $600.  Of course thats with factory parts that are going to last another 100,000 miles.  If aftermarket parts were used or the the person cut corners doing the T-belt job because they were going to sell it anyway, then who knows when the belt will break.

I would not purchase the car BLIND.  Have the car looked at by a VOLKSWAGEN mechanic FIRST.

A maintained VR6 would be KILLER.

A beat down VR6 maintained at the oil changers might not be what your looking for....

  6. yeah its a good car and anyone that says vw is non-reliable then obviously they have no experiance with the car and yes the vr6 is one of the strongest 6 clyinder engines i have evey owned. just take care of it and it will take care of you.

  7. i wouldn't to many miles id say itd last till about 150k miles
