Question:

Should i buy a new driver?

I am a low handicap player, who uses a generic set of frankly S****y clubs. I have a powerful swing but my drives go like 230. My driver has a very flexible shaft and small club head.

Is it worth it to invest like $300 for a new driver?

  1. yea if you golf every day what els would you buy that u use that much and i would go with the new hibor xls ya dagg

  2. I would say that if you are a good player, then it is worth it to get a nice driver.  People say that clubs cant make a difference, but when you are less than a ten handicap, they really can.  If you get a nice enough driver, you will gain distance and accuracy.  However, the most important thing about the club is the shaft.  PLEASE pick a good shaft, like a mitsubishi Diamana or something along those lines.  I would look on ebay for a club like maybe a nike ignite 460 with a Diamana or maybe a Taylormade R425 with a UST V2 shaft.  I personally have the R425TP with a UST V2 custom Tourspec 77g X.  You might look for one of those, but they may be more than 300 dollars. Just go hit some drivers at your local golf store, and talk to the guys about a shaft combination.  This is the best way to go.

  3. Mate,if you are hitting 230 straight down the middle every time there is only three options. Sleep with the driver, never let anyone else try it and don't use it on short par 3's

  4. Buy used. I have added 30 yards to my drives with newer drivers but I bought used.

  5. You don't need to spend that much..you need a stiff shaft with a modern clubface. Make sure you tee the ball higher with the lager clubhead. You might be getting 250+...

  6. Clubs do help a little but it's really talent that gets the ball rolling. Good players can play with anything, bad players think thier clubs are whats wrong. If you have money to spend then buy a new one to make you happy, if not don't worry you'll still be good.

  7. Its worth it if you like the driver and if you will use it.  $300 is not that much for a driver, but you can get some great drivers for that money.  The R7, the Hi-bore XLS, the NIke Sumo squared.  These all have great MOI, are all very forgiving and all make a great sound when you hit them (and really, isnt that one of the most important things on the course?)

However, before spending the money of the driver, you should take the driver to store like Golfsmith, or Golf Galaxy or a pro shop and see about maybe if a different shaft would do you better.  For your swing, maybe a different shaft is better (less flexable, more flexable, longer, shorter, etc.)  Different shaft could mean longer drives without the expense of a new club.

    Have fun!

  8. no, buy a used club at golfsmith. You don't need to spend all that money on a driver. You can buy a really nice used driver at golfsmith for under 150

  9. I would love to afford Taylor Made drivers, but i use Tour Model which is the knock off brand,i had the 460 super quad, and it hit the same as the Taylor Made.I loved it so much,I baught another  Tour Model driver, the CGB max, version of TM,for 70 dollars. If you like Taylor Made ,you cant go wrong with Tour Model.

  10. If you can afford it. Dont take your kids milk money to buy it!

  11. Yes, you will be amazed at what the new technology has done to improve driving distance and accuracy.  You are at a disadvantage playing the old technology if you are competing.
