  1. If you have one router, it's connected to a modem.  that's all you can connect on one account - one modem.

If you need signal somewhere else, you can run a cable, move the original router to  be more centrally located, move antennas, etc.  But a router not connected to a modem is useless, and you can't add another modem on the same phone line or cable.

  2. The easiest way to extend your WIFI network is to do this:

purchase a second wireless router, and, if you don't have any, a long "LAN Cable"/ "Network Cable" (cat 5e or 6).

Run this cable from your current router to your new one, in it's new location.

Temporarily connect a computer ONLY to the new router, and set it up manually (NOT WITH THE CD), making sure to DISABLE DHCP and change the device IP address.

Connect the cable to any open port on your old router (NOT the uplink port, which is connected to your modem). Connect the cable to the new router via any port EXCEPT THE UPLINK PORT.

If this is all done correctly, the new router will be an extension of the old one.

I may have missed some stuff along the way and not been too descriptive, but a good place to go is the router company's website. They can guide you with pictures.

  3. Confusing Question...

If the upstairs router is a wireless router, you can Access the internet with other computers in the house if they are wi-fi enabled, or if they have a USB wireless receiver attached.

You do this by setting up a home network through the control panel.

If the upstairs router is not wireless, You have to buy as wireless router to connect to your internet modem, Then it will send the internet signal to your remote Wi-fi enabled Computer or one with a USB wireless receiver connected to it. At the same time your upstairs computer will still be connected by wire from the wireless router.
