  1. I'd go for an iMac. Check some of these out:

  2. Let's break this down a bit OK?  Over the last few years I've used both PC's and Macintosh computers and like the Mac much better.  It's just easier to use overall.  Everyone says that Mac's are more expensive and that you have to buy all the additional software to get it to work with a PC.

    Well that's true but it's also not true.  A Mac comes with some killer apps out of the box to work with your photos, movies, music, etc.  Everything on a PC costs extra.

    Mac's just work with just about any hardware you plug into it but with PC's you need to load up the correct (and usually out of date driver) and that doesn't promise you there won't be a conflict with something else on your PC.

    To work with MS windows on your Mac you have to buy it but you also have to buy it with a PC as well.

    That said I think, if you can afford it, get the iMac.  They really are a great machine and are much more powerful than the Mac mini.  i work from home and swap files with PC users all the time with nary an issue and every day Apple gets better at the integration between the two.

  3. The new iMacs are awesome!  I'm an IT manager and I use both PC and Macs and I will take a Mac over a PC everyday in any situation.  I get so sick of people who still say if you want a Mac for graphics then that's what you should buy and get a PC because it's common and everyone uses it.  That's when you know they've never used a Mac long enough to form an appropriate opinion or like my problem, know it's a good problem but a stick in the mud.  If you're unique and like things that work well then join the Mac side.  That is why Apple has revamped it's product line.  You can do everything with an Apple and more with less problems.  My first computer was a Mac.  I use a PC everyday because I work for the government and they can't afford Macs for everybody which is too bad.  I even have a PC at home which mainly runs movies while I work on my iMac and OH MY GOD, the graphics and the toys you get with the computer are great!  Sometimes it takes a lot to pull me away from the computer.  You can even use PC software on Macs because of the different window environments that you can put on your Macs.  Macs are expensive, true, but they last a long time with less problems.  I got a Dell which is c**p because their keyboards have never worked right and I had Vista of all things which screwed up my Ipod irrevocably.  Then I found out there was a patch to prevent the problem.  TOO LATE!  I ended up voiding my warranty and replacing Vista with XP Professional.  Look on BusinessWeek, it will show you that this was the biggest blunder Microsoft has ever made.

  4. It depends what you want to do with the computer. If you just want a regular-use computer with a nice interface, and don't plan on getting too technical with it, a Mac is a nice way to go. Easy to use, no real problems.

    PCs are more versatile in terms of software and hardware available, but they require more work to keep them running smoothly. For a technical person, this isn't really an issue, but for a regular user, keeping all the adware/viruses off can be an issue.

  5. i don't want to do a long answer, so I'll keep it short, I, too, am going into year 10 this year and i needed a new computer. So, i wanted to try mac since they looked kwl. So i got an iMac, and its great ! Really, don't get a pc, they're boring and dull. Macs get great ilife software and you can download NeoOffice for free for all the homework and stuff.

    Anyway, I think getting a mac is a great idea, one you won't regret. You could get a mac mini, still the iMac's are so irresistible. And don't worry if you've never used a mac before, i had never and they're so easy to use ! Go for it ! Good luck =]

  6. Well not knowing anything about what you are going to do. I would have to recommend the iMac. It is more powerful than the Mac mini. It looks very nice and has a relatively small footprint, and in addition, if you need a PC only program you can install windows and run it. There are some tests that show some Macs run Vista better than PCs.

    PS I like Macs, but I am not a fan boy, the only Apple I own currently is an iPod. I own three PCs.

  7. It depends what you actually want it for.

  8. Apple computers such as i Macs can be cheap to buy but you have to buy Additional Software. Word Access Powerpoint Excel Packages made by microsoft These can cost around 400.00 for Apple Computers.

  9. I have an iMac upstairs and my wife uses one downstairs and I have a Windows PC for work.

    I think iMacs are great - so i hope that doesn't make me too much of a fanboy.

    Anyway I recommend for the following reasons:

    By the time you buy all the extra things you need to get a Mac Mini to work (keyboard, mouse, display etc) you may as well have spent the money on something that works better straight out of the box. The iMac will take up a lot less desk space than a conventional PC or a Mac Mini for that matter.

    Why a Mac rather than PC. They are easier to set up. They are most stable and crash a lot less. They are easier and more fun to use. They come with decent software built in (not the rubbish that they include in PC bundles). And they are a lot less prone to viruses (I haven't had one in 4 years of using them and I don't know anybody who has).

    And before I forget they are lovely... Opening up the back of my older iMac (you can't do it on the newer ones) was like lifting the hood on a Ferrari engine. Everything fits together and is beautifully engineered. In contrast PCs look like a mess of wires when you open the up.

    Ok I probably am a fanboy, but I have used both PCs and Macs so I am not just talking out of my *****!

    Add: to answer the guy above you do not need to spend anything like that for Office because you are a student and thus would get the highly discounted Student suite.

  10. what kind of work do you do buddy?

    Makes a h**l'a difference!!!

  11. depends on what you want to do

    Mac= media

    windows= everything else
