  1. Wait until you need it. Why buy medicine you don't need?

  2. if it makes you feel better get it. i think i might get a few basic things as well because i would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

  3. You're absolutely right!  You never know when you're first going to need that medicine.  It's a great idea to have some on hand just in case.  You can buy a starter kit, or just buy them seperate yourself.  I would get pain reliever (Tylenol), gas drops, gripe water maybe, and teething gel.

  4. get it when its needed

    : ) Coobycoo

  5. I would defintely have it before the baby comes. Its a great idea. existinme4eva is totally right. I usually buy another bottle of the baby tylenol even though I still have some left. Don't want to run out and something happen.

  6. It certainly won't hurt to have some things on hand, such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, teething gels, tummy soothers (especially for trapped gas bubbles!).  Just make sure the expiration date is as far out as you can find and maybe wait until closer to delivery before you buy to ensure you get good dates. Look over the instructions while you can, because there's a good chance you'll be distracted when these things are going to be needed, and the dosages of infant medication is really important to get right.

  7. You should buy something for fever, and also something for gas.  Don't give either to your baby unless you talk to the doctor first (the first time you're going to give the medicine).  It's much, much better to have the medicine on hand because babies always seem to run fevers in the middle of the night when the stores are closed, if they get sick.

You should also buy a nasal aspirator, saline drops, a thermometer, and diaper rash ointment.

  8. Is better being prepared than having to go buy someting the last minute at walmart.. lol

  9. My mum didn't with me, she just took me to the doctor when i wasn't well.

  10. With my first baby I just bought Sudocrem, but it wont hurt to have Calpol in your cupboard ready. It won't go to waste as you will need it at some point during the first few years!!! Its always handy to have something on hand to reduce a raging temperature quickly.

I wouldnt worry about Infacol yet, but if it will make you feel more reassured to have it, then get some. My experience with friends who had cronic windy babies is that it didnt do any good and there are better products on prescription anyway.

In my kids and babies first aid box i only have Calpol, Nurofen and Mediced, plasters and I dont go anywhere without Arnica Cream. Fantastic for bruising when they are older.

Frances is spot on about the jabs. Having something at hand to quickly relieve a temperature is v important.

  11. only infacol and dentinox. you cant give a newborn calpol, its 2mos+

  12. because the shops in my town all are closed by 5pm each day of the week, i'm planning to get infant panadol (same as Tylenol but i live in australia so it's called Panadol) and some measuring equipment before my baby is born.

Pain relief is really all i want to give him without direct advice from my doctor. I'd hate to give him something for the wrong problem, and i personally don't trust my judgement on infant medication just yet, so i'll be just getting the pain relief to help him get through the night until a doctor can assess him.

  13. yea i think you should because when your little one gets sick you already have the equipment you need and your child doest have to ge any worse that's what my mum did with me but she also took me to the doctors but it wont harm you to do both and can you answer my question pls:) http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?...

  14. no because the baby might have an alergic reaction and you would waste your money. wait and see what the doc. tells ya!

  15. With all five of our runts I stocked up on basics.  Your more than likely to run out of diapers and butt cream then need any sort of meds.  But they are good to have on hand.

basic infant pain/fever reliever, infant ibuprofen, infant motrin, gas drops, and some sort of pedi lite would be good.

Before ever giving a new baby meds always check with your doctor about dosage.  Different brands will have different strengths.

baby syringes, or those small bottles that has a built in med and plunger so you can bottle feed your baby formula while slowly giving him/her meds without him tasting.  they have pacifiers for them too.  most Walmart's have a basic baby first aid kit with all the lil gadgets you can ever need. usually between $20-30

If you think you forgot something ask your care provider what he or she thinks would be good to have on hand.

  16. Just remember that there are hardly any meds that a newborn baby can have without a prescription as almost all over the counter meds are from 2/3 months.

  17. Wait until you need it, you don't want to buy anything that may be harmful to your baby, besides it's more stuff that he/she could get into.

You should buy some things early - diapers, formula, stroller, bassinet, crib, sheets etc.  but not the medications they would not be a wise investment - best thing is to wait, also some meds have a short shelf life too.

  18. Why wait? Do not forget baby Tylenol for fever or pain. Toward the end of the pregnancy things get hectic and you may forget. It is really nice to have some medicine, thermometer, rubbing alcohol and other things handy in case if you needed. If it makes you feel better and more prepared I see no reason why you should not. Most medication does not expire for a long time.

  19. As a mum of four I would rather have the medicine in the house than be waiting for several hours for my husband to get home with it.

You may not be able to get out or have anyone to get the meds for you when you get home with the baby and a colicky baby is no fun in the middle of the night when a teaspoon of gripe water would solve the problem.

When your baby has its first jabs, are you going to wait till it has a temperature and grouchy before you send someone out to get the calpol?

Be prepared.  If you end up not using the medicine they have long use by dates and you may have a friend who could have it from you.
