i just got a guinea pig last night. my girl that i had for 3 years was put down wednesday after suffering from a huge bladder stone, and my mom surprised me with a new one last night. he had a brother and two sisters, and the brother looks exacltly like him. he's really lonely, and im wondering if i should go get his brother. do i have to quarantine and stuff, since they were living together just yesterday?

  1. yes, keep them  together.

    One big happy family.

I wish I got my hamster's brother along with him, he looked the same too...or maybe it was his sister....

No they don't need to be quarantined if they haven't been apart for a week. Any longer then that and they might not smell the same to each other anymore and therefor won't know who each other is.

Just make sure you know they're both male, because you might end up with a bunch of guinea babies. Which isn't that bad if that's what you want.

    Good Luck

  2. I'm very sorry to hear about your old guinea pig. I think that you should, if you do it will occupy your guinea pig while you are gone. I used to have a guinea pig,and it died because it kept trying to jump out of the cage so I highly suggest that you get its sibling... but first you have to see if your tank is big enough, if it is not then I would suggest to get a new one

  3. Getting another one is totally up to you.

He may seem onely now, but if you spend alot of time with him he will soon be filled with good times the two of you share.

Be sure you have time and energy for the two of them, they will both need exercise, time, and attention.

They will also both need a cage unless your cage is big enough for the both of them.

  4. I would so then you can keep them together. It seems harsh to me to separate them when they're family. And if they look the same then more the reason to get him,two identical guinea pigs running around-may as well!

  5. I did this--I had one went back for another female and not too long later I ended up with FIVE LOL...it's hard to determine s*x at a young age so be careful...I had to get more cages and the work just tripled...

  6. it's fine  and i think you should get the brother if he whines and is sad

  7. i think you should haveing a lonly animals not good for its health.
