i went to my local goodwill and found a vintage road bike. it is by my uneducated guess 15-20 years old. it says gitane and has some solid parts, it looks to be in good condition, tube scrathes etc but nothing serious. i was set to buy it but then i checked the price tag...$135...from a good will. that seemed like way too much. is it?

  1. Go back and offer $75 - 135 is too much. A gitane is a good old bike but it's still freaking old.

  2. Gitanes were good old bikes. Check the drivetrain  components. If they ALL say "Campagnolo" and "Nuovo Record" or "Super Record" then GO FOR IT. If they say "Simplex" or "Huret" or even "Shimano", forget it.

The Gitane to look for is the "Tour de France", but only the one with full Campagnolo Nuovo Record or Super Record  drivetrain. The others aren't worth much... maybe $20 on a good day.

  3. B S speaks no B.S., $135 is too much for that bicycle.
