i am in dispute with my phone service provider.. they say i owe them money from a previous account.. (not present account).. the phone was installed 9 months ago and they are only now cutting off my outgoing calls... they say they will not reinstate outgoing calls till money owed is paid back..and that they should not have taken me on in the first place..

i say that present contract has nothing to do with previous money owed..and i say they have broken present contract with me and i can withold payment or at least cancell agreement..

i am thinking about cancelling DD on present account but phone service provider says i shouldn't ...

  1. threaten them with ofcom as you have not broken the contract with your current line. If they are owed money by you for another contract, they must collect according to that contract not this one.

  2. Cancelling the DD won't stop them billing you.

  3. You don't make it clear, did you close the previous account properly and make sure it was paid off?

If you genuninely did run up bills at a previous address, or leave the line open for someone else to, then they are quite within their rights not to do business with you as it isn't an essential service like heat and water.

If the debt is down to their incompetence, misadministration, and/or incorrect billing, then you should get the CAB and/or telecoms ombusman to help you.
