Question:

Should i correct my colourblind son?

iv just found out my son in colourblind ,I'm still in shock that he sees trees grass and apples all as orange and i nor his teachers ever noticed,what i want to know is should i correct him and be telling him what colour the things really are? even tho this is pointless and he Will never really know what green is and his perception of these things being orange is normal to him.

  2. yes explain it, but as previously stated don't make a big deal of it.

    as long as he knows that he is colour blind and understands it he should have no problem learning.

    It is not the most important thing he will have to learn but it may help him understand his condition and not to take colour for granted as most of us do our entire lives

  3. Yes - I am also colour-blind. You should let him know what colour it really is so that he can store this for future reference. We use different coping strategies including recalling from memory. So I know grass is green and the sky is blue - even though i can't see it that way. You don't mention your sons age but he will be able to cope with it if you explain whats up with his sight.

  4. You can explain to him that you see different colours from him, but don't make a big deal of it. My husband is colour blind and it has never negatively impacted him, so don't worry :)

  5. i would explain that everyone see's colours differently like my mum swears her car is brown where as i swear its dark red, as long he realises that there is no harm in being colour blind i think it might be good for him to explain what colours things are!
