i am going to get my hair dyed on friday morning and i was wondering if i should deep condition it a few times before hand to protect it from a ton of damage during the dying process. i just dont want to do anything that will make my hair not take the dye as well

my hair is naturally veyr light blonde and i dye it an auburn color so i am going darker not lighter. i have been dying my hair darker for about 2 years. i get regular trims, i use a heat protector when i use a straightener or curling iron and i deep conditon often so my hair is in good shape.. i would like to keep it that way tho lol

i have green eyes so do u think i should keep it auburn or go a deep chocolate brown?

thanks

  1. Hair dye should be applied to dry unwashed hair. So the last day you should wash your hair is wednesday. Dont wash your hair on the thursday or friday morning before going to the hairdressers. After your hair has been dyed, leave it for 48 hours before washing it again as the colour could fade. Use deep conditioning and leave in conditioners to keep your hair soft and shiny.

  2. dont deep condition until the service has been provided make sure that whenever u rinse with cool water that way the hair cuticle closes  on the the conditioner

  3. Personally I would so it's in the best condition to take the dye in. I'd also take it a while after you dyed your.

  4. Hello!

Deep conditioning is good for your hair before the coloring process. The chemicals in the hair dye open up the cuticle on the outside of your hair shaft and deposit the color....deep conditioning isn't going to make this not possible. However, deep conditioners can lift color out of your hair so be careful after you dye and ask your colorist for aftercare tips...she may suggest a color depositing shampoo and conditioner to keep your color rich and vibrant. Red dyes also are known to fade quickly, so if you are going for a shade of red make sure your colorist gives you an aftercare plan. These days I wouldn't worry about damage to the hair if you are adding color ( making it richer/darker). You hair will probably look healthier and shiner after you have your color done.

Either auburn or chocolate brown would probably look good on you. Your colorist should have hair swatches for you to look at. Review them with him/her and come to a decision!  Happy coloring!!
