im leaving my car for a month and will sit idle parked outside. its an old car - 99 Hyundai with lots of kilometers on it. never really had battery problems with it. im just wondering whether it would be necessary to disconnect the car battery since it will only be a month. im scared it wont start when i get back. i cant find someone to start it once a week.

  1. If you don't have any shorts in your electrical system it should be ok to leave it hooked up. But you can do it either way.

  2. this depend,s on the state of your battery.....if it,s still in good shape a month storage shouldnt hurt it...but if it,s near it,s life expendency your on board computer system may deplete the surface charge & you will need to recharge, jump start, or replace your battery....a battery charge maintainer [ similar to a trickle charger] may be installed but you,ll need to plug it in ...it won,t overcharge or use much electric...will only maintain a specific charge...similar to someone starting it on a daily basis...available at most auto part,s retailer,s.

  3. A month is not a long time to let a car sit. I have atleast 10 cars and only drive 3 of them on a regular basis. The rest sit for months and months. I let my 1961 Willy Wagon sit for 13 months without touching it, decided to move it and it started right up. I only drive my 1935 Ford pick up in the summer and it sits the rest of the year. Over the last 13 years I have had to jump start it twice.

  4. It wouldn't hurt. You probably do have a few things drawing a small amount of electricity when the car is off.

The worst thing you can do to a parked car is to start it up now and then for a few minutes. You drain the battery and pump moisture into the engine and exhaust system without getting them hot enough to burn it off.

  5. Yes you should because the vehicles computer will drain the battery down if left for 30 days...........

  6. It definitely would not hurt to disconnect the car battery, it would really would be good though if you could try to find a person to start it every few days, its good to get oil to circulate through the engine!

  7. I'd disconnect it, you could even remove thus making it harder to steal. When the battery runs low, you can jump start it, or buy an overnight charger for about £30 (well worth it)

  8. I would leave the battery alone. It will be fine when you return.
