Go for it!

There's a substantial book by Angus Heriot which would be an invaluable resource for you - it's called "Castrato in Opera," and it's easily available on Amazon.

If it's something that interests you, by all means you should.  They definitely lived interesting lives (or at least I think they did).   A great source is "The World of the Castrati: The History of an Extraordinary Operatic Phenomenon" by Patrick Barbier.
