If i would be in a fight and my opponent did a head lock and take me to the ground(instead of actually punching or kicking) and then is doing the ground and pound, should i try to apply the gogoplata quickly or should i just throw punches back until he gets off?

  1. Wow...

I know you crazy stand up guys with no basis in grappling are going to answer with some funny stuff... but Sifu Frank and the first answerers would literally get your killed.

I promise you arm based no power downward elbow strike is going to make someone get off or hurt them. In addition you are trying to elbow their knee, what is protecting your face? Ohh.. forgot about that huh? The same goes for reaching up to gouge eyes... you have the worst leverage in the world for that, and the person on top has control of your body and head and can gouge your eyes out at will...

Instead of trying to rely on gimmicks, cheap tricks, or something that falls in the WTF category listen to the other posters.

Learn to escape from mount with bridges, step over sweeps, sweeps, reversals etc. Upas, etc.

Bridges serve multiple purposes one of least is it forces that person to stop hitting you in the face, they have to post out an arm. Reversals and escapes from there end up with you on top or at least beginning to disengage.

If you are flexible enough to try for a gogoplata (which will be unsucessful) you are flexible enough to just put your legs in front of the guy (near the back of your head) and push off as hard as you can, get seperation and upkick him.

Honestly there are a ton of right answers, and everyone of them should be in a way that gets you out of the position using methods that are based on leverage and principles that don't including striking.

Striking will not cause someone to get off of you, it will make them hit your harder, and since they have gravity and the ability to put weight behind their blows, you are at a disadvantage.

You have to know how to use leverage, gravity and their weight against them to get them off of you. In other words the right ways to get out of the position without trying to rely on something whose effects you do not know.

  2. try wwe moves i do whip *** master lock if u have power gogplata u would get thrown out of school

  3. Some have hinted that you should fight dirty.  The only problem with fighting dirty is the other person will fight dirty.

Most fights don't have guys trying to gouge out their eyes or whatever.  If they do, then find the nearest stick or brick and start wailing on them!!

  4. If it's a street fight, why roll around on the ground, on the bottom nonetheless, looking for a submission? Go for a sweep, get back to your feet or try and get top position and bring down punches, palm strikes or hammer-fists. Looking for submissions for the bottom is strictly for competition. Trust me, you don't want your opponents friends jumping in, stomping and kicking you in the head while your trying to slide your shin under someones chin to get a technical finish to a street fight.

  5. if you know you can secure the gogoplata, and feel safe, might as well pull it off.

I personally tried to execute a gogoplata, and ended up scrambling for an armbar.  Of course, the dude was literally 90 lbs heavier, so he could muscle his way out for that first attempt.

You might as well go for an omoplata, if you wanna show off.

Ultimately, stay safe, and work for position.

  6. The first answer you got is the best so far. I would add, on the street where it may be more than a test of wills I would add every down right nasty thing I could think of. For instance It only takes a few pounds of force to tear an ear off. Thumb in the eye gets a lot of attention.  Of course be prepared for the law suits that will surly follow.

  7. That first answer will get you KTFOed by anyone who has any idea what they are doing. If someone has you mounted and is executed a GnP you need to bridge hard, possibly using a knee in their back to shove them forward so that you can trap one arm, then trap a leg, and execute the basic Upa aka Bridge and Roll escape to get on top.

If they are inside your guard and trying to GnP then you have nothing to worry about and trying to throw elbows to their leg, or hit them in the groin is stupid. If you are capable of pulling off a Gogoplata (which based on this question, I doubt seriously) you can execute a basic Situp sweep to end up in Mount and deliver your own GnP.

For gods sake though, get some real training if you want to learn how to fight. The Gogo is a gimmick technique used by people who are very skilled, it is not something that should be your GoTo move in a "street" situation.

You want to sweep to be on top, that is your goal. Punching from the bottom will just get your beat down. Trying to elbow people in the leg while you are mounted will just get you KOed.

  8. use your elbow to strike the groin while pulling one foot up to your but, extending the other one.  Now push with your hips to the side that your extended leg.

If in a match with rules, then you can use your elbows to protect yourself and also strike to the top of the leg.  Last time I was in that position it only took 2 or 3 elbows to the leg before they wanted off.

You don't want to throw punches while on your back. You only waste energy because you cant usually get enough on the punches to make them dismount and it is easy for them to get an armbar
