Should i drink protein shakes when i lift?

i wanna gain muscle faster becuase i wanna gain about 10-15 pounds before next football season. is taking protein shakes going to help me gain muscle and weight? if so how do i know which one to use?

  1. Yes you should take Creatine before you lift and drink a protien shake and eat a few carb after you lift.


  2. Whey protein is the best protein shake to drink for building lean muscle. You should also add lean cuts of meats , chicken, turkey, etc.

    EAS has a great shake called myoplex, it's excellent and is an industry standard in muscle building shakes

    But rely more on real protein also, like from food. egg whites, meats, etc

    1gram for every pound of body weight at least and you will gain m uscle weight quickly

  3. Drink the protein shake 10-15 minutes right after your work out then within a half hour eat some good solid protein food. The muscles will absorb the whey protein pretty quickly so then you'll need some solid food to last you through the rest of the day.

  4. It will help you gain muscle, and for this reason. I believe the proper amount it about 1 (maybe 2) gram(s) of protein powder for 1 lb of mass. If you are exercising (assuming you are also doing cardio) you will gain weight, but when you do it will be muscle. Or it will help you convert your fat into muscle faster than normal. If you are only lifting however, you will gain muscle faster, but you still can put on fat I believe. Cardio is just as important as weight and stretch training. Personally, I have 1 protein shake a day, after exercise. (I do P90X 3 weight training days, and 3 cardio/stretch days alternating with one rest day) It helps me recover faster and thus build muscle faster. I do hope that you are not using creatine as in some shakes. Best of luck.

  6. I drink MuscleMilk, chocolate mint and vanilla creme, drink them after you lift, you have a "protein window" where your body absorbs extra protein after exercise, and eat a generally high protein diet at meal times.

  7. muscle milk is good. take it 30 mins before workout and 30 mins after and if u want before bed
