I am a senior in high school and I took theater for 6th period which is my last class. I kind of want to be an actor and thought this class would help. But I am a shy guy and I get nervous being around girls and well... this class is full of girls. Their is only like 3 guys including myself and the rest are girls.

Should I drop this class?

  1. Stay in the class. In Drama, you build a community and that helps you get over your fears. I've been in Drama and it is great! It really helps get rid of stage fright and trust me, there can never be too many guys in a Drama class! I have had to fill in for a guy (i'm a girl) and it makes it so much easier when there are actually guys in the class who are willing to take the roles!

  2. If you like acting and you want to stop being nervous around anyone (girls, guys, adults) stay in Drama class.  You'll be surprised at how much fun you'll have

  3. In my drama class there are only 5 guys. I'm a girl and I can tell you in drama they need guys. I've only played a guy once in a play and that was in 8th grade. I had to play Jaffar in Aladdin because there were only 2 boys who auditioned and they got Aladdin and Genie. It wasn't fun. If you like to act and keep doing it then it'll be fine.

Once your used to the new people you won't mind being shy. Trust me I was always shy in school and when I did theatre it came naturally to me and I was loud and it shocked me too. I opened myself in choir at the time because there were no drama classes in middle school just the Musical Theatre Club after school. But after I got into high school I got tired of being shy and me not being myself. I  just got out there and have been my theatre self.

I'll say I'm not happy that I did that because my friends found out the real me and ditched me I'm kind of the loner-ish person in school. I do hang out with one person and that's Missy. She's in my AB class but we hang out at lunch and we get along really well.

But I honestly think you should do the class. It'll be good experience for you to expect things that might be a shock later on in life.

I have the dream of being on Broadway and I started acting in musicals in 6th grade. after my 8th grade graduation my grandma found an audition in town and I took it. That company I did two shows at and then I was recommended for Top Hat, another place. I went there and I've been doing adult shows and children shows for a year, I've done 5 shows going to be doing A Christmas Carol with them again too. I've had so much experience and if you want to make your dream come true you should start now. Don't drop the class. Keep moving on someday I might want to do movies, but right now I want to sing and see people smile.

  4. Stick with it.  There are so many more roles for guys than for girls that you'll be busy all the time, and you'll also get a lot of chance to do scenes with the girls and maybe learn to relax.  The best thing about acting is that you get to be someone else, so if you're doing a scene with a girl who makes you nervous, once you start the scene it's not you, it's the character, and unless the character is supposed to be nervous you get to be that other guy who isn't nervous at all.

  5. If you kind of want to b an actor then you should kind of get over your fears & this class may help with that.
