  1. Your cage is optimally big enough for two rats at most. It is not really large enough for 4. You have already asked whether you should get 3 instead of two. Since you need to convince your mother I would say no. She is the one who will be picking up the vet bills and with 4 rats, those expenses could stack up if you have bad luck. In addition, you would need to buy a much larger cage - a one-module Ferret Nation or something. I think you should stick with your three rats for now until you are sure you can cover the vet expenses and their needs.

They will work out the ramps in time.

EDIT: Your cage is not large enough and you are thinking of your own pleasure, not the rats. With bucks, the minimum dimensions will not do and you may end up with fighting rats because they do not have enough space.

By the way, if you tell the people who answer your questions to shush, you should not be surprised when they stop taking time out of their day to answer them.

  2. was you p****d when you asked this question  who wants to play with RATS I am terrified of them even looking at the horrible things makes me feel ill

  3. Its up to you if you want 4 rats.

As long as you buy the same gender that's ok.Rats love to climb and don't worry about the rats not using the ramp. They have to get use to their new home, you should be able to hold them 2-3 days later. But you can try luring them with treats. Good Luck.

  4. It can take rats a while to figure out ramps if they've never had them before. Let them get used to the cage and when they're comfortable they'll start exploring more confidently.

The fighting also sounds normal. Rats have a hierarchy, and they're still figuring out who is "top rat." As long as they don't draw blood, you should let them sort things out on their own. They will squeak and it will sound bad, but that's just a sound they make, they're usually not really being hurt.

If you want to get a new one, I wouldn't base the decision on the little one getting picked on. You just got them today, so they're still getting used to each other and will likely work things out eventually. There is also no guarantee the new one will get along with him, either, so you need to be prepared if the new guy turns out to be aggressive and needs his own cage. But if you have enough space (they'll get grouchy if they're crammed together) you can get another. With males in the Jenny, I would say 4 rats will be a bit uncomfortable. 6 or 11 weeks isn't much difference in behavior, but if the 11 week old already knows one that can be beneficial. Either way, though, young rats are usually easier to introduce than older ones, so both should be accepted in time.

EDIT: Forgot to add, you can probably start picking them up in 2-3 days or so. In the meantime, make sure to be in the room often and talk to them.

  5. my answer to the first bit is on the other question and ....

the rats will find there way up the ramp (=

also i found with my rats is that they just didnt like the ramp and

    preferred climbing.

although ive got a freddy cage so i would'nt know what your cage looks like. (=

  6. Mr Boo, my cat, wants to meet your rodentia.

  7. No dont buy another one, buy a spelling book instead.

  9. I think that you should probably stick with the three rats for now. Even if the cage calculator says five rats, bigger is ALWAYS better. They will get used to the ramps eventually, it just may take a day or two.

The fighting is normal, let them duke out who is the big bad dominant, you need only get involved if you see blood, then you may have to buy a new cage and a new companion for the poor picked on rattie.

As for picking them up, I would give them 24 hours to get used to their environment, let them be alone in their quiet place so they can destress. After 24 hours open the cage door and just stick your hands in the cage, let them get used to your scent. They may nibble, but don't fret, they are just testing to see if you are food. They won't really take a chunk. After they have climbed all over you, then try feeding them treats, such as blueberry yogurt, first from a spoon then off of your finger. It is also a good idea to wear a hoodie type shirt and let them explore, or shoulder surf, on you while you go about your daily work.

Rats are lovely pets, and are my favorite little critter. I hope you have fun with your new little guys.

  10. they will get used to the ramp and each other, its up to u if u want another one but that wont make them get along any better,

  11. i answered this question in the message you sent me but i thought i might add that your rats will end up using the ramps [[i took mine out cuz my girls didnt use them..they just climb the wall]] and unless you see blood they should be fine. if you really feel the need to get another rat then feel free..[[its really up to your rats on age...try and wait a few weeks and see what happens before jumping up and getting another one!]]

  12. they will sort themselves out i hope

    you could have a trio

but then tou may have a two against one situation

    its a dominance thing

pick them up now and play with them

never ever by the tail tho ok

place one hand under their front arms and the other under its bum to support weight

or open cage dooe put hand in cage and allow rat to walk up your arm.

mine are in a big guinea pig cage with ropes and hammocks

wire floors are not great for their feet

good luck rats are great pets
