  1. Your body mass index (BMI) is 38. If you have co-morbidities (high cholesterol or high blood pressure or diabetes, etc) you DO qualify with a BMI over 35. (It is BMI>40 without co-morbitities.)

You may also be a good candidate for gastric band surgery... less invasive (cutting to your organs) and faster recovery. (slower weight loss, as well)

Talk to your doctor and get another doctor if he/she will not agree. Also, check with your insurance company to see if they cover weight loss surgery.

Do a lot of research. Talk to others who have had the surgery.

  2. NO you have to be a certain percentage over weight sorry! Our friend was your height and she was over 500 pounds and it was iffy but she got it approved after a few letters and all was well untill she figures out she could still eat bad foods and put most of the weight back on -- it is not a magic solution!! watch what you eat exercise . only way.Why is it people are always looking for the EASY way?? it isn't easy she also had complications and infections.

  3. you don't cualify ( spelling mistake) for it so you simply can't get it. Sucks... maybe he'll subscribe you pills if you talk about that.

  4. There are many options for that type of procedure so check out some info and find the right one for you.

Check out http://www.yourbariatricsurgeryguide.com for lots of good info on the topic.

  5. You don't weigh enough.  Your BMI is 38.  You must be 100 pounds overweight with a BMI of at least 40 to even be considered.  There are other fator besides your weight and BMI that surgeons look at.  They want to know what you have done to lose weight.  They want to know how long you were on each diet and how much you lost/gained.  They look at whether you have sought medical help (nutritionist, prescribed medications) for your weight loss.  It is much more than you weight alone.

I am 5'8.  I weighed 298 the day of my surgery.  I've lost 120 pounds in 10 months and it's been fabulous.  The surgery is not for everyone.  You should look into gettiing the lapband, which is easier to qualify for.

  6. More and more insurance plans are covering the treatment and advise refering to your insurance plan's benefits summary that details what is and not covered, exclusions, limits, etc before consulting with a physician.

  7. You are supposed to be at least 100 pounds above a healthy weight, and I don't think you are.  Maybe look into a gastric band, like the Lapband.
