I am looking at getting either a Taurus 100ss, or a Beretta 90.

The thing that is makin me lean more toward Taurus is that the 100ss is a .40 and the beretta is only a 9mm. Not sure what to get :X

  1. The best choice or decision you could make is to get a 357 Magnum.* It has been tried, true, tested, and proven to be the best no-nonsense man stopper of all.* You can also shoot 38 caliber ammo in it.* You get two (2*) handguns for the price of one. Use 125 grain jacketed hollow points for defense ammo.* Knowing this it would be unwise to choose any other caliber.*~

  2. how about a S&W 1911? But if your set on one of those two. I'd go the Beretta, in my experience they shoot better and are better quality. You also may want to hold and fire both of these to see which one fits and feels better.

  3. if it was me i would get a Glock 27. its a subcompact lays inside an open hand and its a .40 caliber. but out of your choices i would go with the beretta its a smaller caliber but i believe they are a more reliable gun, and what the point in a bigger caliber if it jams up.

  4. actually the Beretta 90 is available in .40 so if you prefer the Beretta, go for it (msrp $700 vs $559)

I have two Taurus that I like very much but Beretta is extremely fine firearm - I'd go with which one felt and pointed best and the one I could get best deal on. They probably will feel somewhat similar but they may point differently. I once had a Star PD that I really liked but if I ever needed it, I would have shot the bad guy in the foot - just didn't point right

  5. if you ask me i would get a glock you can't make it jam and you can get anything from a 22 to a 45 but thats just me only draw back it i get glock bite but they say that doesn't happen to everyone

  6. I have owned 2 Taurus autos for over 20 yrs and have never had a stoppage. A pin in the adjustable rear sight of one broke and Taurus replaced it at no cost with no hassle. The Beretta is a good pistol but much more expensive and I don't know how their warranties work. Taurus has a life time warranty. Can't get any better than that.

  7. The only reason not to go with the Taurus is if it does not fit your hand comfortably.   They are priced better and the warranty is excellent.  They are a dependable pistol and shoot well.

I personally like their decocker/safety feature.   When you drop the hammer with the decocker, it does not automatically make the safety go on, so it is ready to shoot double action when you are.  It decocks down and the safety is activated by raising it in 1911 style.

I have owned both and am comfortable shooting either.   To me, the double action of the Beretta seems a little more smooth (not that the Taurus is bad) which normally isn't a big consideration for people as it only effects the first shot unless it is a double action only.

  8. Depends on how much you wanna spend on ammo. 9mm is about .19 a round where .40 is about .30 a round. both Tarus and Berretta make great firearms.

  9. Taurus, in my opinion, is your only choice. I asked my father (who worked in a sporting goods store for a decade) a similar question. He broke it down like this:

    1) Sig performed the best in torture tests but the price tag is high.

    2) Taurus is the best value

    3) Beretta is laughable.

Also, I suggest the .40 s w over the 9mm. I've personally spoke to over a dozen veterans and not one endorsed the 9mm as a defense round. For defense purposes, I can recommend nothing small than the .40 due to it's choice of heavier bullets. The .40 rounds may be pricier, but in a pinch, how what value can you put on your life?

  10. Go w/ the Taurus, mostly b/c it's a better value. Beretta makes you pay for the name.

The 40 S&W is a great caliber in just about any sidearm.

  11. Have you looked at the Springfield XD????

    http://www.springfield-armory.com/

We really like our XD 40!  Shoots smoothly and accurately.  There's lots out there on it.

Looks like the Taurus vs. XD price wise is pretty comprable, depending on features, barrel length, etc.

MSRP listed at $542 on a quick search.

    Happy .....ummm....  Hunting.
