I really want a lovebird or a different cool bird, but the problem is that I am scared I won't have enough time for it once it comes the school. I will come home from school and have time to train it, but I don't want to be mistreating my bird....Any good advice? I really would like a bird.

  1. It's great that you're really thinking this through.  Ifyou ahve any doubt you can't provide for your parrot then it may not be a good idea at the time.  You could look into lovebirds or budgies which are small, and not so noisy and can handle being alone for a part of the day.  Just provide a large cage adn lots of toys and then take your bird out once you get homefrom school.  But even these little guys can be demanding, noisey, messy, and expensive.  If you have any doubt you might want to wait 6 months, see how you schedule is and if you still want a bird and think you can handle it then look further and go for it.  Best of luck, and it's great you're really putting a good deal of thought into this.

  2. I was the same way. I really wanted a bird, and I thought I would have enough time for it. It turns out I didn't and it was so annoying. I ended up getting rid of it because it would squak all the time, wanting attention, and it would have bird seed all over the floor under it's cage. I was going to school at the time also... I would recommend that you not get it if you are thinking you may even remotely not have enough time. Birds are a lot of work.

  3. Birds are wonderful pets.I have 8 of them right now. I would stay away from the love bird if you don't have a lot of time for it. And if you get two love birds you won't have one that is going to be as easily hand tamed.  If I were you I would look at getting two hand tame Cockatiels they are very nice pets and they will bond with you and you can keep two of them. I have two now and they come out and play with us. Sit on our shoulders ect.. but then we cna leave them and they are happy because they have eachother to keep company.

Also Parakeets are nice little birds that you can hand tame and they are good in their cages together keeping each other company. They aren't as expensive as the cockatiel but personally I like the Cockatiel as a pet.

  4. birds are a lot of work and they are very loud at times, they need attention for a couple hours a day at least.  on another note they do make great companions and are less expensive to maintain. Good luck either way!

  5. OH this is probably just me, but I think it is horrible to take a creature that was made to fly, and put it in a cage in your house for you to look at.

  6. if you really want a bird but your afraid you wont be able to take time to play with it , let it out ...etc. you should get finches or canaries theyre perfect for that because your really not suppose to let them out lol because theyre tiny and are not easy to catch , plus you cant get their wings clipped so its difficult to catch them (i.e caged birds) lol but all you have to do is clean their cages and feed them. I have two cockatiels and i sorta wish i had gotten canaries instead because theyre not so demanded. But i lov'em so i guess its worth it but deff. get canaries or finches if you really want a bird!

  7. if your even questioning whether you can take care of it or not, then DONT do it. Wait till next year or until you have someone else around to help out with it.

  8. Birds are very intelligent and that's why they need so much attention and can squack or pull out their feathers if they're bored.  If you decide you do want a bird, get two if you won't have time to spend at least a few quality hours per day with the bird.  Otherwise it'll be lonely and bored.  Keep in mind that most birds sold as pets live a very long time.  A parakeet can live 15 years and some of the larger parrots live 75 years.  So make sure you can take care of the bird for its entire lifespan.  Good luck.
