Should i get a epiphone les paul standard or a mexican made fender. they are both $429. .?

ive been paying for about 3 months. my squire that i have now rattle and doesnt stay in tune. my B-DAY COMING UP AND I WANT TO GET A NEW GUITAR. WICH ONE SHOULD I GET AND WHY?

You can get both if you just shop around pawn shops or eBay. My son plays for a living and says there's nothing wrong with the Squire and he frequently finds very expensive guitars seriously underpriced.

I have not played either of these guitars, but I have played a higher end Fender and it played fairly well. I'm used to playing Jackson and Ibanez guitars, so maybe my opinion pointless.

It really just depends on what kind of music your playing. Neither is really better than the other, its just a matter of preference. Play them both in music shops to see what kind of taste you have in pickups.
