  2. get a hamster, gerbil's get like football size and smell bad.

  3. Gerbil, Ive had both and gerbils are way more fun, but get more than one they usually come in pairs.

  4. gerbil

  5. get a hamster they are very easy to take care of.

just feed it once a week

and clean its cage once a month\i've had 2 hamsters and they are very cute!!!

  6. Hamsters are mainly active at night, so they should fit perfectly with your schedule. Also, hamsters and gerbils smell equally the same, neither are worse than the other. Hamsters are more playful, and gerbils are very speedy, so they're hard to hold. Hamsters are more cuddly, and not as easy to lose, and easy to recover safely. Hamsters are by far better. They also live 2-4 years, while gerbils live 2-3 years. Good luck! ^-^

  7. a turtle or lizard, or a big skink...their cooler..

  8. Those who said Hamster, are completely STUPID! In no crazy universe EVER, would a hamster be a better pet than a gerbil. Gerbils, they would fit in way better in with your schedule than any hamster ever would. I have gerbils. I noticed, they sleep for a few hours, sometimes just 1 hour. Than they get up, play, eat, drink and chew on stuff. They stay up for, I don't know, half an hour to one hour and a half. Then, they go back to their peaceful sleep. I have two friends, they both had hamsters. They both got bitten. They said it hurt real bad. One of my friends, her hamster bite drew blood! My other friend, she lost her hamster under the couch. It took her a real long time to find him again. My gerbils, they only bit me once. It didn't really hurt, and it actually kinda tickled. Sometimes, gerbils WILL nibble, but that's only to check if your food. That most likely will only happen the first few times you approach them. Sometimes, even if they're already are familiar with you, they might gently nibble you. It won't hurt, and sometimes it might just be curious, or sometimes it might actually be out of affection. They hardly ever bite.  Hamsters bite WAY more than gerbils do. Gerbils are cuter, and they are very social. They're also probably friendlier than hamsters, because they are way more social. Hamsters, if you want 2, than you'd also have to get 2 cages, cause if you keep em' together, that'll lead to fights, and maybe sometimes death. Gerbils also have the cutest squeak. Gerbils are way more cuddly, and their fur is so soft. Well, got to go, looks like my gerbils are awake. I hope their ready for some playtime! Oh yeah, let's not forget that gerbils live longer. Hamsters live  for 2-4 years, while gerbils live for 3-5 years. Sometimes, they will live even longer, if they're really well taken care of. I hope you make the right decision, and get a gerbil. Not the hamster. Oh yeah, I love my gerbils so much, that I actually wrote a story just for them! Here it is.

My pet Gerbils, Yin and Yang

My name is Jiayu and I am going to tell you all about my 2 pet gerbils, Yin and Yang. I will talk about rodents too at the end.

First, I will tell you all the basic things about my gerbils. They are both males. One of them is a tan-brown mixture and the other one is a dark, shadowy black. Yin is the tan-brown one, and Yang is the black one. They both have fur that is incredibly soft. They are also very gentle. They have never bit me once. They wake at 10:00 in the morning, 2:30 in the afternoon, 7:00-8:00 in the evening, and some other time at night. But that’s not the exact time though.

At first, Yin was the only one who bothered to get to know me more. When I came over, he stayed in the house for a few seconds, but soon, he started inching out of the house, sniffing the air. When I put my hand through the door, Yin would flinch, but soon, he would crawl over to sniff me. After that, he lets me pet him. When I walked close to the cage, Yang would scramble into the house in a hurry. He always stayed in the house, but a few times, he did come out for a while to get a good look at me. Unfortunately, as soon as I stick my hand in there to let Yang sniff it, he just gets terrified, and scrambles back into the house.

Now, lately I’ve begun to think that Yang trusts me more. Most of the time, but not always, whenever I walk close to the cage, Yin scrambles back into his house, but he doesn’t stay in there for a long time. Yang usually sticks around outside to let me gently pet him. After a while, I guess he just gets bored and then he crawls back into his house, but he still lets me pet his tail, if it’s sticking out of the door.

Usually when I offer tiny gerbil treats to them, you can pretty much guarantee that Yin will always be the first to inspect the treat, and as a result, he’s always the first to get that treat. Sometimes, Yang rushes through, and I drop the food. Occasionally, that makes Yang the first one to get that treat. Do you want to know why? It’s because Yang sometimes takes a look at what he crashed into, and if he likes it, he picks it up and eats it. Sometimes, Yang doesn’t take a look at what he crashed into, and I continue giving it to Yin. Most of the time, that’s when Yang finally sees the food, and if he likes it more than Yin, I feed it to him first. When I finish giving the treat to Yang, I take another one, and give it to Yin.

If I’m feeding them seeds, they both seem to fight the whether it’s Pumpkin seeds, or Sunflower seeds. When they fight over the seed, it’s not a fight with physical contact, or anything. I think it’s more like a contest, to see who can push in front and get the seed. I can never decide, so I give the seed to the one who pushes in front first.

Their personalities are both kind of hard to describe. Their personalities are both so unique, and I’ve never seen any personalities like theirs. Yang is brave, because if I put him on the second floor, he climbs down the ladder right away. Yin is the more timid one because it always takes him a while until he finally jumps down. (Without bothering to use the ladder.) Yin and Yang are like the characters from The Two Princesses of Bamarre. Yin is like Addie, who is shy and timid. Yang is like Meryl who is strong and brave.

On the computer, I found out that gerbils need a sand bath to get clean. You take a big bucket of sand, and let your gerbils roll around in it. When they come out, you’ll notice that their coats look much glossier, and if you’re a good observer, it’ll look cleaner. I haven’t told my parents anything about Sand Baths but they’ll find out about it soon.

Gerbils and all rodents have a very fast teeth growing rate. They can grow 1-3 milliliters in a week! Because of that, they need to chew on something hard a lot. Most people use a big block of wood for the big rodents. For small rodents, some people use wooden sticks, or much smaller chunks of wood. I have a metal bar cage, so my gerbils can nibble on that to keep their teeth at just the right length. Most of the time, they chew on the metal rungs of a ladder in their cage. Sometimes, when I finish a Popsicle, I give the Popsicle stick to the gerbils to chew on. They also like to chew on their bedding, which is made of wood shavings.

They stuff a lot of wood shavings into their house to make it more comfy for them to rest and sleep in.

Their eyes are both so bright, and they shimmer with curiosity. Yang’s stunning shadowy black is interrupted by a few white hairs near his eye. Yang has a happy golden colored fur, with tints of tan and brown nearly everywhere to spoil the pure gold color. I also noticed that there is a bit of fur missing at the end of their tails.

My gerbils still don’t trust me much and they struggle to break free when I carry them. But, I still have hope, because it’s only been one week and a half. I believe that as I get to know them more, they will trust me soon. In this short time with my gerbils, I have already found out how much I love them.

Hopefully, by now, you know that gerbils are the right decision.

  9. Hamster. My friend has had both and shes liked hamsters better. I personally have a hamster too, and she's not stinky her cage is if you don't clean it which is once a week. Gerbils are easier to lose and are really speedy.
