should i get a mercury mariner or a ford escape? i really like both.. but i want to know what other people, that have maybe had one of them, think. they're both a pretty good price for a first car, and have okay gas mileage.

any advice? any suggestions?

  1. They are basically the same vehicle with trim differences. I chose the Mariner over the Escape for three reasons:

    1) I found it much easier to read the instrument cluster in the Mariner (the Escape had white backgrounds and I found that difficult to see as opposed to the Mariner's black background)

    2) I REALLY like that external number pad to unlock the doors

    3) the Mariner was less expensive than the Escape for the same equipment. I got the two dealerships into a bidding war and the Lincoln Mercury dealer won.

    Good Luck.

  2. There almost exactly the same. There are really no differences between the two. Choose the one that is best equipped if your getting them used take the one with the least miles.

    EDIT

The cars that Iamstitch2U suggested are nicer in my opinion.

  3. They are the exact same vehicle.  The only difference between the two is the material they put on the seats and the shape of the grille.

  4. Right now it is a buyers market, so get a decent car like a Pontiac G6 or a Chevy Impala

  5. I LOVE Ford Escapes. I'm stuck with a Used Explorer right now, but when I can, I intend to buy one.

Mercury cars tend to be a little more expensive than Fords, and I prefer the Escape. Great gas mileage for an SUV, not too big, not too small, handles well. Can develop road noise, but I look past that.

  6. they are the same exact car built on the same platform mercury is owned by same company, ford but get ford escape its more for younger people mercury is more older people
