Should i get a ps2 (i already own a 40gb ps3)?

Question

ok im wondering if i should get another playstation 2 with just a few games e,g dogs life, gta series (my childhood favs) its my birthday in a week and wondered if this was a good idea? or i could get the money instead and gamble on the football and then get like hundreds of dollars to spend on ps2 and ps3 titles? or just get the money and spend it/pre-order on upcoming playstation 3 titles.

i still have my memory cards for the ps1 and ps2 but cant use it due to the ps3's cutbacks in the 40gb model.

this would mean i would be able to use my gta,crash bandicoot(ps1) saved files when i play the ps2

i would like some comments and some feedback regarding my options

This is why Sony should make all PS3 models BC ! People still have and play their PS2 titles. I have a BC PS3 and I have tons of PS2 games I still enjoy. There is no way after spending $500 plus on my PS3 would I fork over another $100 for a PS2 !

I've heard rumors that Sony was going to release a firm ware update in October to allow 40GB PS3 to be BC but of course it's just a rumor !

if you have the memory card for the ps2 that would be fine i had to take the ps3 back with all the games cause my son said he wanted his money back for every thing cause he got real bored of it real fast so he still has his ps2 slim in started to play his old games in he said thank god he still had his memory card cause it it had all his old games on the memory card now he is happy playing the ps2 again they have come out with some new games for the ps2 you do what you have to iam not going to put you down cause you want to go backward to the ps2 my son is doing it right now playing the tokyo extreme racer 3 :)ava06

There are some amazing games on PS2 and your PS3 40gb will obviously not play them. You would have access to all the old final fantasies (i-x), resident evils 1,2,3,4, Gran Turismos! To be honest I'd say that PSX is still better than PS2 or 3.
