  1. it depends if you want something bid that will b hard to escape or a mouse that is small and be furry and sometimes escape i would go with a rat it may be big but wont escape

  2. i love both rats and mice, and i have both.

But i tend to lean more towards the rats because they give you more to hold and aren't as stubborn.

I've been able to get rats to come to their own names and stuff where the mouse does nothing. I love her anyway though.

  3. omg, totally go with the rat :) i used to have a female one for 5 yrs :)  they are sooo nice imo, i just see a mouse as a hamster :P

  4. Get a gerbil, they are sooooo much better, but rats and mice r kwl tho

  5. Rats need alot more attention then mice. Both are great pets but rats are more like small dogs and they are very smart. They can become very tame but as i said you need to spend more time with rats then you do with mice. :)

  6. Research a rat before you get it, they are more care then mice.

Don't get one rat though get 2 or don't get any they are very social and its not fair to keep them alone.

Rats are fairly high maintenance though so you'll have a handful with 2 rats.

I'd get 2 females though just because they are more active and playful, male rats are great to it just depends on what you like as far as personality goes, they are all different and unique though.

I've owned 20-30 rats before and every single one was different.

    Here's a few tips:

I wouldn't get one from a pet store they all have genetic diseases and they will most likely die earlier.

Don't feed them pet store rat food its all junk and will shorten your rats life span a bit and any animal for that matter, Harlan Teklad and Mazuri are 2 better brands for rats.

Never put them on pine or cedar bedding, they carry phenols and are life threatening to any animal.

Don't keep them in aquariums its not enough space for them to climb or move around and will up the chances of them getting a respiratory infection because the lack of air ventilation.

Always get two of the same sexed pair unless they are spayed/neutered and if you are going to breed you should research for months and months literally before you do.

They have some common health problems as they get older such as tumors and will cost quite a bit for a vet to remove them.

With whatever you choose good luck and research A LOT before you get a rat, I assume you already have with a mouse.

  7. Get a rat. They are awesome pets and smart. Get a male one though... as they are more relaxed. I have 2 rats. Love them both to bits :) Recommended pets for sure
