Question:

Should i get a second opinion about my retainers?

I removed my braces 3 days ago (yay) but have been asked to wear plastic retainers that have a neat thin wire on that run on the outside surface of my teeth and. The reason i got braces in the first place (a year ago) was because i had somewhat rabbit teeth and my lower row of teeth were heading in different directions. Everything has been fixed now, however, my lower plastic retainer is cutting into the gum under the back of my teeth (hope that makes sense) and causing alot of pain. when i wear them at night i cant even sleep! I revisited my dentist who did something with the wires, but said over all nothing could be done about the rough edges of the plastic. Is this correct? The retainer is still excruciating and I want to know if its worth getting a second opinion and having a more comfortable set made (if possible and sensible at all).

  1. They can and should file down the plastic. Absolutly go somewhere else. Retainers should not hurt at all!!!!
