I have a 2008 Yamaha R6, im not to happy with the stock pipe so im looking around for the right pipe for my bike. I dont know yet if i want to invest on a full system or just a slip on. Slip on mainly is for sound, i know that. But in the future, probably some time next year, im planning to take it to the track to experience something different. Slip on or exhaust, what do you guys think the best pipe is, for the sound and performance or the best brand that works with the 08 yamaha r6? Some of the brands ive been looking at are: Akrapovic, Micron, Two Brothers, M4exhaust, Yoshimura, Jardine GP1 exhaust, LeoVince, Termignoni, and Graves. Feel free to recommend other brands not specified ^^

Thanks.

  1. As far as brands, look to the magazines and race teams to see how they are coping with the R6. If the right note is important to you for street riding, all you can do is hang around other bikes and listen for what you like. Some might be crazy-annoying and raspy where others might make a smooth nice sound.

Either way, it's not like adding the exhaust system will do anything earth-shattering for your bike. If anything, it will add a pony or two here and there with the most gains on the very top. Those ponies probably won't help you go significantly faster since you should be driving out of the corners at/near your torque peak instead. It will, however, lower weight = good!

The main benefit is the improved rev-ability of your engine. For that, I recommend full systems. Everything should flow better and you can get to power more quickly. If you race, yes, there's no doubt about getting a full system. Yet the guy sitting next you with superior skills will just blast past you pipe or no pipe. If it's your first track day experience, just buy whatever you're prepared to grind on the asphalt and replace.

  2. Best thing to do is get a full system and power commander, they work in unison with each other.

I would recommend Yamaha's own GTYR pipe.

  3. Just do it right the first time and You will never regret it, buy the entire package. Skimp and You will forever regret it.

  4. save the money, you will be happier in the end. s***w the sound, it is all about performance!

  5. You named all the top brands so far. That, a performance air filter, and a power commander will have you set. It would be a waste to get a PC and not have the bike dyno ran. Those pre-configured maps are like the no name cereal, it's just not as good as lucky charms.

You'll need a small fuel delivery modification to compliment the new exhaust.
