hi, im a junior golfer currently playing on 10. the shaft i have in my driver is regular, but my 3 wood has a stiff shaft. Both shafts are made by fujikura. Many people have told me that i should get a stiff shaft, because i'm now producing a lot more power with my swing. However i am trying to slow my backswing down, as that is getting to fast. should i look at stiff shafts? what are the advantages of them?

  1. The determining factor is swing speed not "power".  Hit several different shafts on a Launch monitor....the data will tell you which fits you best.

  2. From a college golfer to a junior golfer lol i recommend that you go to a golfsmith or a local golf shop and get fitted. I know that at a golfsmith they can tell you exactly what you are going to need. Slowing down your backswing isn't really going to affect your decision. Its your downswing where all you power is generated. If you are hitting your 3wood straight I would think its likely that you need to upgrade the driver to stiff as well

  3. seeing as how you are getting a good ball flite out of your stiff shaft of the 3 wood, you should probly upgrade to a stiff shaft on the driver.  but as stated before, you shoud also get a professional opinion.  they can also hook you up with the perfect  length of shaft.  slowing down your backswing a little can be effective for your tempo to stay on point.  therefore, more consistency.  good luck and hit it strait!

  4. It really depends on the way you swing the club and not just based on your swing speed.  If you fast tempo swinger, stiff if good.  If you got a slow tempo like Fred Couples or Ernie Els, your regular shaft will do just fine.

  5. Have a golf shop measure your "swing speed" and this will tell you if you need a stiff shaft or regular.

Or, what you could do, if you want to experiment, is demo a driver with a stiff shaft and see how that affects your shots and compare it to the regular flex shaft.

  6. I would go fro a stiff shaft, I use one and I can now hit 330 with it. But it all depends on how hard you swing. You can always borrow a friends for a round and see how it feels. If you like it you should get one.
