I haven't gone to school yet, but I'm gonna be starting college in the fall of 09 to become an elementary school teacher. I was wondering if anyone knew if getting a tattoo on my wrist could ruin my chances to be a teacher. I just want a small tattoo of the symbol LOVE in chinese or Kenji. If not I can always get it somewhere besides my wrist, but I really wanted it there.

  1. Well I wouldnt recommend it.

You might be okay, but why risk ruining your chances at your dream job?

  2. OMG i had exactly the same problem.

I wanted a star on my hand but i know full well that if i go 2 an interview with that and go to shake my employers hand,

    That's it! =/

I decided on my foot instead.

Also because it looks equally as cute.

  3. I had a teacher with a tattoo on his wrist and no one ever objected to it. If you present yourself in a professional manner, it shouldn't be an issue. And if it's on your wrist, just wear an extra wide watch or bracelet to your interview if you're really nervous.

  4. It's probably not a good idea, unless you live in a very liberal area. If you really want it there, you should check with the school districts around you to figure out what their regulations are. I know in high school I had teachers with visible tattoos, but that was high school and a very liberal town. With younger kids, parents are often both more involved and more likely to want teachers to be "good influences" - and I'm afraid many parents would consider a visible tattoo a bad influence. To be safe, it would probably be better to get it someplace else. Unless, of course, you'd be willing to keep it covered up by long sleeves or watches.

  5. I would not get a tattoo in a place where people could see it.  It might hurt your chances of getting a teaching job or parents of the kids that you teach may not like it.

  6. you probably shouldnt get the tattoo on your wrist,

employers would not think it as a good influence on elementery kids

  7. I would definitely recommend getting it somewhere else.  My friend decided later in her life that she wanted to be a teacher, and while she can't say for sure that she was turned down because of her tattoo, she strongly feels that way based on the conversations at the interview when the tattoo was seen.

  8. no get it on a place you can hide like your neck or back *** stomach something like that

  9. Having a tattoo doesn't automatically ruin all your chances of getting hired but might reduce. Most of the employers will think it's not a good influece for the little kids. But a small sign that is not violent is sometimes accepted. Or else have it on your back or somewhere else. two of my teachers had tattoo but weren't supposed to tell usthey had one . I personnally don't suggest you to get atattoo on your wrist but it's up to you !

  10. My friend and I are both in our 4th year of University for our Teaching Degree. She has a big nautical star with smaller stars on her wrist, another tattoo on her foot and one on her calf, and she hasn't had any problems druing her internship placements. Also, she works as a Teacher's assistant at a school after we are done our classes for the year with no problems.

I say get it!! I'm getting a half sleeve done pretty soon, I just won't wear sleeveless shirts in class!

  11. If I were hiring you, I would say go for it, but we know how employers are don't we. Also, The parents may not be too cool with it since it is elementary aged kids. I would get the tattoo in a place that could be hidden. I know it sucks that people still discriminate against the tatts and piercings. My husband works in the Wall-Mart bakery. He had a small hoop in hes left ear and had to end up getting a labret stud for health reasons. You can't even have a tiny nose stud which I think is rediculous. But you can show tatts as long as their not offensive, WTF? But if it's something you really want, get it in a special place you can hide it.

  12. I wouldn't get it on your wrist. Get it somewhere where you can hide.

  13. If you end up getting it on your wrist, get it on your left side, it's less obvious than your right because you do everything with that side: write (unless you're a lefty), shake hands, and stuff. I have a tattoo on my left side, it's pretty small though, and no one really notices it, some of my college friends don't even know I have a tattoo.

  14. I once had a teacher (9th grade teacher)  who had a tattoo of a marijuana plant on her arm but she would always wear long sleeves until one day she actually showed some students in the class and man that thing was big!

  15. i have a friend that has a tattoo on her wrist and she wears a watch over top of it when she is at work and she works in a hospital. i mean its not a school but the watch band is the perfect cover up.

  16. A small cute tatoo like that shouldnt s***w your chances unless your goign for a high-class school.

Personally as a student, itd be awesome if my teacher had a tatoo. Ive sene plenty with small ones :p

  17. If you're questioning it and not totally sure - NO.

But, if you really want it... I'd say a bangle or thick bracelet could always hide it.

  18. you can do what you want but it would always look more business appropriate if you did not have a tattoo there

last year i had a fresh out of college teacher that had a bit of ink on her but she was a really good teacher. the point is if your a 45 yearold teacher with visible tattoos how is that gonna look

good luck on the desicion and dont forget that you will get old and still have the tattoos
