  1. zune

  2. Honestly both are good players but each has their advantages and disadvantages.

    Zune 8GB Pros

    Better Quality Materials and Construction

Easy to use interface and navigation control

Better Sound Quality (If used with premium headphones)

    Zune 8GB Cons

    PC – Only device

Zune Marketplace has a smaller selection of music/videos then itunes

    Limited availability of accessories

    Zune 8GB Neutrals

Wi-Fi syncing and sharing (Wi-Fi is a very heavy drain on a battery and is subject to availability of Wi-Fi and the number of Zune owners in your community. However you do have the option to turn off the Wi-Fi)

FM Radio with RBDS (The Radio Broadcast Data System on select radio stations display a station's call letters, genre, and occasionally shows the currently playing artist and song information.)

Lacks EQ (I personally view EQ as a way to allow people to get by with cheap headphone because premium headphones ($200 +) do not need help balancing the sound)

    IPod Nano Pros

Slightly Larger Screen (2” Vs 1.8”)

Better Battery Life (26 Hours of audio/6 Hours of video Vs 18 Hours of audio/4 Hours of video {based off my own battery tests})

Popularity (Very easy to find a Nano in any color or memory size you want plus any accessory you could want)

    IPod Nano Cons

Average Sound Quality (A pair of premium headphones helps but people with high audio standards wont be very impressed even with the premium headphones)

Small Scroll Wheel (Can make navigation a hassle, especially with people with large hands)

Build Quality  (Has a toy-like feel when held and is prone to finger smudges and scratches)

    IPod Nano Neutrals

“Tubby” body shape (Can be uncomfortable when held for long periods of time)

    Lacks a FM Radio

Has preset EQ settings (However it lacks the ability to allow the user to make custom EQ settings but as stated before in my opinion EQ is a crutch for cheap headphones)

To me, if you using your mp3 player to mostly listen to music, a very active person, workout often, tend to be very rough on your electronic devices or just plain clumsy the Zune is for you.  If you’re using your mp3 player for mostly video playback, have limited access to a computer or stay in a small town with limited access to stores that sell high end electronic devices and accessories I’d go with the iPod Nano.

    (Sidenote: I prefer the Zune)

  3. ipods are only able to play mp4's and mp3's

zunes are only able to play wma's and mp3's

if your music comes mostly from itunes use ipod otherwise go with the zune. any legally downloaded in wma format will have drm and be hard to use on ipod, requiring burning a cd ripping the cd and adding back id3 tags. same with mp4s from itunes with the zune.
