  1. No!!!!!! don't get them i had the same thing as you but it was club instead of high school ball.

i thought it would be a way good idea but unless you have sprained your ankle i would not recommend it

i thought the same thing but it made my ankles weaker than they already were and now i have to have heavy duty ankle braces when i play, and i have to wear lace up compression ones just to walk around with out too much pain

my doc said if i hadn't gotten ankle braces i would have been better off.

what i would do i see a local physical therapist, or even a sports med. doctor and them tell you. they can even give you work outs to make your ankles stronger, and avoid problems over all

i don't know if any case has been as extreme as mine but i would really see a doc about what they think cause every person is different  and you should avoid it as much as possible hope that helps

    Good luck

oh and if they think you should get some i would recommend Breg Ultra ankles http://www.breg.com/products/bracing/sof...  every one says get active ankles but i have had many problems with active ankles Bregs are the best and i would put my life on that

  2. ive played for years w/o them but recently my teammate snappped her ankle. but i don't want to spend money on them so i will continue to risk it

  3. Yes, definately get active ankles! They are a must!

  4. YES && NO !

    Yes side !

uhm.. I think that it would be a lot safer to wear ankle braces.. They are a big comfort.. big support.. they don't have your parents worrying if you break a bone .. and the consequences of  not wearing ankle braces are that you might not be able to walk again .. nor play any sports again .. nor enjoy life as you did .. just because you didn't wear them !

but on the other hand ..

    No !

because no days they seem to become expensive ! but they are usually uncomfortable a times  ! I wore ankle braces .. and they do hurt if you get them a size too small.. or a size too big !  So it's better off if you go to a professional shop where they have size matches there !

    hope I was a help ? tee`hee.

    Any time ! =)

  5. You dont wear ankle guards because of weak ankles....you wear them to prevent serious injury...which can lead to weak ankles....

Ankle protection is a must in a sport in which players are jumping at the same time in close proximity (hitters and blockers), and in a game in which lateral movement is essential (blockers and defensive players).  Because of the movements necessary to play good volleyball, the chances of spraining, breaking an ankle are much higher.

YES to wearing ankle protection.....they prevent many injuries.....to counteract the argument that wearing anle guards contribute to ankle weakening (which have never been proven, and it isn't like you are wearing teh guards 24-7), do ankle exercises; similar to the ones you use to rehab a sprained ankle (go figure)....

FYI.....your ankle will become more weak after a sprain or break than from wearing ankle guards

find ones that are comfortable...I recommend active ankle (the strap kind), or any kind of "soft" ankle guard that laces up AND has straps, also made by active ankle....

either wear the guard, or injure yourself....my teammate thought ankle guards were stupid...until she sprained her ankle BADLY when she jumped to hit and the blocker came under a little bit....she landed ON her ankle....

  6. As a coach I strongly recommend ankle braces especially for my front row players. I obviously can not demand my players wear them but I strongly advise it. As to the type - I prefer and have worn active ankle braces in the past.

Here's what I can tell you. The braces are preventative. They are supposed to minimize the risk of ankle injury. They cannot guarantee that you will never suffer an ankle injury. Furthermore, I have seen no evidence or study that says ankle braces weaken you ankles. If you are only wearing them during practice and matches and working out the rest of the time with out them then I fail to see where the weakness argument comes into play. The braces do not support any weight but can restrict movement. So when my players are running or in the weight room or doing core exercises they have never worn the braces.

So here is my antedotal stories. In 6 years I have seen about 9 ankle injuries. 3 involved players landing on other players feet. I one case the player was wearing braces. She rolled over but was back on the court the next day. The other two were not and were out for 4 days and 10 days respectively. The other 6 injuries have involved players landing on unshagged balls (3 of these were not mine but happened at a tournament). Again 2 were not wearing braces - one was out for 3 weeks and the other for 3 and a half weeks. the other four (one mine and the others a coaching friend) were all wearing braces. The shortest time out was 3 days and the longest 5 days.

Obviously all situations and injuries are different. But given the likely hood that you will at some point come into contact with another player's foot I'd suggest them. You can make your own decision but I still don't believe they weaken your ankle.

  7. Yes!!! I am only 12, but am i leading MB and OH and after tourneys and practices i would come home with really sore ankles, i got ankle braces from Active Ankles. They really helped and i haven't had sore ankles since. Its always better to be safe than sorry!

  8. YES!

    I recodmend active ankles.

Especially if you're a hitter. I never had ankle problems either until one game my foot landed on another player. Then my ankle popped out, and they had to force it back in. It was some of the worst pain I had ever been through.

  9. ACTIVE ANKLES!!! I cant live with out them now!! Everytime i play with out them i roll my ankles!!! if you do roll your ankles alot you should!! from personal experience: im a outside and middle hitter which mean if i jump wrong or something i could really hurt them!! =)

  10. Especially if you are an outside hitter/middle blocker/or setter, you might want to consider it.  Or ask a coach. At my club, if you are a MB or OH, they usually make you wear ankle braces. Any position close to the net is risky for ankles, so it is definitely something you want to look into.

  11. definitely!

volleyball can be very hard on your ankles, and with all the jumping, you need protection for them. my coach made everyone on my team have them this year to make sure nobody rolled an ankle.

i have active ankles (T2) and they are really good. i would definitely suggest them.

  12. don't buy it if you don't need it.

it's better if you don't cause then you

can build muscle in that area. and

if you do end up buying braces,

it just gets in the way, and you're

    more prone to injuries.

  13. ABSOLUTELY!!! ya and active ankles are the best, they are stiff at first, but once they form to your foot, the best thing ever!!

  14. yes get active ankles. I have had some close calls and my active ankles really id help me!

  15. Absouletly! 100% i too had "strong" ankles, but senior year right before state i was warming up just doing some hitting lines, someone stepped on my ankle and instantly my ankle was double the size, of course my coach was crazy and made me play anyways which KILLED! but it is something that i have regretted forever, if i would have had an active ankle i could have minimized the sprain, and been more effective, and probably could have won at least in the first round. and if you're planning on playing in college, you might as well get used to them now. i know my coach made us wear them, and the majority of college coaches will make you wear anything to prevent an injury because they NEED you! as a healthy player, youre of no use as an injured player sitting the bench, so dont be stubborn, just get them, i promise it will pay off huge in the long run
