-my skates always feel "loose"

-my spins travel a lot now (they didn't before)

-and my jump landings aren't smooth

-oh, and one of my blades feel "out of place". it's not actually loose, but when i walk on the carpet i feel this squeaky feeling.

i don't know if i should get new skates because i just got it for about a year (custom made). or maybe i just need to sharpen the blades? or tighten some screws? what do u think?

  1. if your boots are comfy, just get new blades. but like i would talk to your  coach... GOOD LUCK!. i have trouble w/ skates too.

  2. Maybe just get your blades remounted?

  3. Talk to your coach and maybe take your skates to your local pro shop to have them check it out.  Do you have deep creasing in the ankles?  If you're having trouble centering spins, you may need your blades sharpened.  Sometimes your coach can also tell you if you need your blades mounted more to the inside or outside depending on how you stand and you landings.  It's always a good idea to frequently check your mounting screws to make sure they're tight.  This might take care of the squeeking.  Also be sure you're allowing your skates to dry out after you skate to allow the sole leather to dry out.  This also helps prevent your blades from rusting.  Many times, especially with customs, if you have broken them down, the company will rebuild them, saving you the cost of buying new boots.  Good luck!

  4. i think you answered your own question that you SHOULD get new skates. it sounds like if one of your blades is out of place you could hurt yourself so get new ones.

  5. How old are you? If you're younger than 16,you probably shouldn't,because your feet are still growing and you'll need to get new ones soon anyway. But if the skates are really that bad,get a better pair. If they feel loose, you could easily twist and sprain your ankle on a jump landing or while taking a sharp turn.

  6. I don't know if you need new skates, you may just need to go to a skate shop. It definately sounds like you need a new sharpening. They would also help you if your blade is loose to fix that. Are you young enough that your feet are still growing? If they feel really tight or small you would need new ones.

  7. A year to a year and a half is usually how long skates last for higher level skaters. It sounds like you need some new skates!

  8. You should check with a professional skate dealer or whoever you bought them from about the "looseness" because they might not be stiff as they used to be. Custom skates are pretty expensive so you want to keep them as long as you can. You're probably traveling because they need to be sharpened.

  9. it sounds like you just need to get a few adjustments. tighten some screws, fix your blades, and maybe have your feet re-molded to your skate so they won't be as loose. maybe your skates expanded after you started wearing them or something. i don't know, that's just what i would do. good luckk
