Should i get one gerbil or two?

Question

I am thinking of getting a gerbil, female, and have picked out a cage i like but haven't bought it. I was told its better to get two. I dunno if i should or not, and if a do, what size of cage will they need? If you can help me then thank you and if you could maybe put a website on with a picture of a good cage i could use. thx x*x

Definitely 2!!! Gerbils are extremely social and live longer, healthier lives with a friend. As long as they are from the same litter they will not fight. I have 3 male gerbils living together and they have never fought. They are best friends. I've heard girls are more likely to fight than males but you still need to get 2. Don't put more than 2 females together.

A 10-20 gallon tank would be good, also any cage with levels are fun for them too. Make sure the floors of the cage aren't wire bars because this can hurt their feet. No plastic cages or tubes (no crittertrail, habitrail, etc...)

Truth be told, gerbils are better of single. Females tend to get very aggresive to one another as they get older. They won't get lonely with out a mate, so don't worry about that. Just make sure you play with her for at least an 1/2 hour to 1 hour a day. As for a cage try getting a gerbil/hamster starter kit. That way you will already have the supplies you need as well as the right sized cage! Petco and Petco.com sell these types of cages as well as a variety more that will help you choose the one you like as well as the one you need. Also at Petco.com if you scroll down and on the left hand side you see that it says Pet Care Info, click on that  then click on Animal Care Sheets, from there you will pick out the one that says Gerbil and that will tell you everything you are going to need for the Gerbil! Get 2 because the pets newness does ware off after a while.... So u will get bored of it. so when ur not playing with them they have company and someone else to play with!

I think you should defiantly get 2 so they can keep each other company. Not males because they will probably fight and not female and a male because they will make little gerbils so probably 2 girls.

Defiantly not a little tiny cage because they need plenty of room to run around in. So a fairly decent size. Maybe one with 2 levels?

I always get two of an animal because they can keep each other company when you're not there. Two of the same gender too, or you'll have babies up the wahzoo.

I don't know much about gerbils but chances are if you get two (opposite genders) you might have little gerbils running around. If you get 2 males they will probably attempt to mate (I've seen this done with mice). I'm not sure about 2 females I think you'd be fine because when I went to a pet store the females were kept together. So it really depends what you want- I would personally get one cuz they'll be a more loyal pet.

i would get one until you get use to taking care of it you want it to feel comfortable and then wants it feels at home then if you want another one than get one
