  1. I suggest a digital camera. But I'm assuming you already have a decent stereo. I just think surround sound is over-rated.

  2. return your camera and get rock band

  3. No-one can answer for you.  I suggest you devise a list of critieria and put a point value on them. Then score the questions and see which wins.

    Some examples:

    - Cost (e,g, if surround sound would cost $1000 and a camera $200, the camera would rate higher)

    - Pleasure derived (e.g. if the camera is something important to you because you love pictures, while the advantage of surround sound is marginal relative to stereo, the camera would rate higher)

    - how often would you use it (e.g. if you use a surround system daily, but a camera once a week the surround system would rate higher)

    - alternatives (e.g if you have a film camera, but no stereo, buying a surround system fills a bigger need than a digital camera because you can already take pictures)

    - etc.

Working through the exercise is excellent practice for life ... which often comes down to making choices. The only real rules are to keep it fair by choosing valid critieria that cover as much of the full range of issues as possible, and rating honestly.
