  1. The difference isn't big - it's huge!

It might seem not to be worth it - but it is! Not only the resolution changes - the framerate changes, too! If you use the AV or whatever, it seems as if the picture changes slowly  - with an HDMI cable there is a new picture every 60th part of a second. If you don't have an HDMI cable and connect your PS3 to your HDTV - everything seems zoomed - unnaturally zoomed. With an HDMI cable, the resolution is pleasant.

    I really recommend it.

  2. this is pretty much covered...but also consider this: if the major movie studios decide to implement their ludicrous copyright protection scheme into future blu ray discs, the only way you will be able to play movies is by connecting your digital blu ray player to your digital high def display using a digital connection (HDMI).  if that happens, you'll pretty much need HDMI.  All those poor people who bought HDTVs that only accommodate VGA and component signals could stand to lose out.

someone else mentioned getting the cable cheap, and that is true.  the 50 and 100 dollar cables are a total joke and prey on consumer ignorance.  if you live by a Big Lots, they have a 6 footer HDMI cable for 12 bucks, and it produces a great picture.

  3. The difference depends on your current cables.

Are you using composite (Red/White/Yellow, the default PS3 cables)?  Yes upgrade.  This only does 480i, and your TV is trying to display it at 1080p.

Are you using component (Red/Blue/Green/Red/White)?  Debatable.  You could upgrade but I doubt you'd see a difference since it already does 1080i/p.  For 5.1 audio, just use TOSLink.

Do not buy a Monster Cable or any other cable that's in excess of $50 for 6-12 feet.  No need for the official Sony cable either.  Buy one from monoprice.com, firefold.com, or some other cable retailer online.  You'll pay much less, and the quality is the same.  HDMI is a specification, so only cables that adhere to the specification can be marketed as such.  You don't need to buy a cable marked HDMI 1.3, since your electronics probably won't support it.

Is your TV 720p or 1080p?  Some 720p TVs accept 1080i or 1080p inputs, but will downscale to 720p.  Do not set the PS3 to output a resolution higher than your native resolution, or you'll just cause a loss in quality.  You'll notice this when you plug in the HDMI cable it will ask you to select the resolutions, or have it auto detect.  For instance, my 720p LCD can also accept 1080i, so the PS3 will think the TV can display 1080i and check it off.  When games display in 1080i, the TV will downscale it and de-interlace to be 720p.  It's best to just output the 720p signal in the first place.

  4. personally, I don't think it's worth it, except for sound. Not for the money. If you find a pair for nothing it's good. I use components for 1080p and an optic cable for the sound, which is the same as HDMI. I use HDMI for my ps3 and component for xbox, and I can't really tell the difference, except for a few minor details.

  5. It will give you the best picture and sound quality all in one cable!

  6. Yes you should...you will notice a huge difference.  Go to www.monoprice.com for cheaper cable.  They're sell it cheap and very reputable vendor.  Awesome customer service.

  7. YYEESSS!!

HDMI Provides both digital video and digital video via a single cable.  The HDMI cables are so cheap online now, they are a NO BRAINER!

  8. OMG The difference is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sharp as a sharp object can be.

I got a cable for $15, and it works just as well as any other expensive HDMI cable.

Do not buy expensive HDMI cables.

    It is a rip off.
