  1. No.

only AFTER your accepted to start work and get paid.

  2. no

  3. Don't worry - I am a recruitment consultant and we ask everyone for 2 forms of identification (passport & bank details)  This ensures that you have the right to abode in the UK and bank details so that if you do temporary work, they can pay into your account instead of by cheque.   We have to ask every one for ID so as not to discriminate.

You give your bank details to the recruitment consultant because if you do temporary work, it is Reed that will pay you not the company that you actually do the work for.  Reed pay you and charge a higher rate to the company that you worked for.  That's how Reed make their money.

  4. I'd only expect them to take your bank details after they'd got you some work. Surely you've got some idea of whether it's a reputable agency or not - were there other people there? Did you get a professional impression of them? How did you hear about them?

If you're an overseas worker it's quite possible that they'd ask for a copy of your passport though.
