  1. My opinion, no.

$2000 is NOT a lot of money when you have to pay for everything.

Even if you find a decent place to sleep for $40, you have only enough money to last about 2 months.  You need to pay for food and  transportation  etc.

The big problem is getting  a job.

Unless you know someone when moving here, it is difficult.  Where will you find a room mate and a job somewhere along the public transit route without knowing Spanish?

Moving here will not change the fact you have no job and little money.

If you really want to move to PR, I would pass up the last minute deal on tickets.  Find a job there, learn Spanish, save more money, come for a visit and research a bit.  Look for jobs online   etc.

Then, when you are more prepared and have more money, make the move.

  2. Hey! YOU should not move to PR until you have a secure job because in PR there's a big issue with jobs and the people are not going to giv eyou a work that fast. 2000 is a huge amount but it will go in about 5 monts or less depends in how you spend it. Take Care and start searching a work at clasificadosonline.com if you find one and they say YES come to PR but if not dont come you would not find work that fast!

  3. if u really wnat to do it. you only live omce so take chances. thats all i can tell you its truly up to you :)

  4. Hey. I just want to let you know that you say you will spend $40 per night on a hotel room right. So for 1 month that is $1200. Once you count in food & other expenses you will only have enough to survive that first month. & you will have a really hard time finding a job in 1 month. That will never work.

If you really have your heart set on it. I suggest waiting until you save atleast $3000 or $4000. Then when you come rent a cheap apartment. Like a studio of efficiency. You will need to stay in the San Juan area since you will not have enough money to buy a car. You can find something in San Juan for about $300 per month but it will be small & probably in a rough neighborhood. Most places will want a 1 year lease. See if you can find one with a 6 month lease. Or talk to the owner & see if you pay them for 3-5 months in cash upfront & maybe they wont require a lease from you.

Normally I wouldnt recommend it, but if you dont have anything to loose then go for it. Just be ready to face the reality of it all which might be failing. Here I started a search for you. I searched for apts in the metro area for between $200-$400 per month. Only look at the ones that say san juan in front of the neighborhood. Also Carolina & catano are ok. Dont look at Dorado, Toa Baja, Caguas, etc because they are farther out of San Juan. Just realize that most you will find will probably be Rio Piedras, Santurce, etc & they are not good neighborhoods. If it says 'Incluye agua y luz', that means it includes water & light. If it says 'No incluye agua y luz', then it doesnt & you will pay extra:

Good Luck. Hope I gave u some insight

  5. I'd recommend you save up more money first, finding jobs in PR is a big issue right now.

Just so you have an idea, I spoke to a girl just 2 nights ago, an experienced bartender, who told me she had been looking for a job for a month with zero answer (not even an interview call), she has been looking all over Old San Juan, which is probably the easiest place to get a job at a bar, since so many people come and go so quickly.

Rent is super high, and utilities are going through the roof, as well as gas (which affects everything else). I don't know where you can get rooms for $40 a night, so good luck to you. I know of places in Old San Juan at about $50 a week (VERY small, shared bathrooms, shared kithchen), but finding vacancy is solely based on luck.

If you want to try it for an adventure, go for it, but please please please have a backup plan and stay out of drugs. I see tons of american junkies every day in Old San Juan who tried it out just like you and ended up broke and roaming the streets like zombies. It's heartbreaking. Good luck.

  6. Go for it... HOWEVER... you DO know that Puerto Rico has an unemployment rate of about 17 percent and that at least 50 percent of Puero Ricans get some kind of government assistance.

If you plan to get some bottom rung job, you will be competing with people who DO speak SPANISH... SO... just WHY do you think they will hire you if all you can talk is AmeriKan?  The only job you will get is something that even a Puerto Rican won't do.

I have learned over the years that people who are losers in their home country will be even bigger losers in a foreign country where they will STICK OUT like a sore thumb because they don't know the country, the culture or even speak the language.

You can rent a nice little apartment for $600 per month or less... but that is on a 6 month lease.

I lived in Old San Juan, on Calle del Sol and it cost me about $1500 per month for a small apartment.

I have to wonder if you had even HEARD of Puerto Rico until Hillary Clinton went there and you saw it on TV.

  7. 2000 WILL TAKE YOU A LONG WAY IN PR.  HOWEVER,  IT WONT LAST YOU FOREVER.  THE POPULARITY IN PUERTO RICO HAS GROWN AND FINDING JOBS IS AN ISSUE.  UNLESS YOU HAVE A GUARANTEED JOB, I WOULDNT MOVE UNTIL EITHER I HAVE MORE MONEY OR I HAVE A GUARANTEED JOB.  GOOD LUCK THOUGH
