Should i go for sole custody?

my son's father recently moved 4 provinces away. he gives money when its convenient and sees his kids once, twice a year. he is practically non-exsistent. what benefits do i have for obtaining sole custody?

  1. Sounds like "custody" isn't the issue, but rather the matter of child support... you need to go to court and get the court to withhold (garnish) money from his paycheck before he gets paid. When he gets so far behind, he can be arrested for being a dead-beat.

    When you do that, you can also specify terms for visitation, such as making appointments and so forth. This can include having him submit to drug testing to prove he is safe for your kids to be around.


  2. You would be better off having him sign over his rights; so he can be out of  your life forever. Sole custody means freedom to raise him as you see fit.  

  3. if you obtain sole legal custody then you have the right to make all decisions for your son such as school, religion, and medical decisions without having his father's consent.
