  1. I agree with Deano727.  You are more likely to get hurt in a bike or car accident than in a ski accident.  Think of falling off a bike:  you hit hard pavement, and usually walk away with lots of scratches and bruises, maybe even a broken bone.  When skiing with common sense, a fall just involves sliding out in some soft snow - plus you have all of the padding of your jacket and pants.  I have been skiing for 15 years and have never gotten seriously hurt- not even a broken bone.  Skiing is a great lifelong sport to enjoy... you should definitely try it!

  2. Skiing is as dangerous as you make it.  If you go out on the run without a care and just straight line it your first time and don't take time to learn the basics it can be dangerous, but you have to show your dad that you're responsible and that you'll be cautious and it's more likely that you'll get injured riding a bike than skiing.

If you wear protective gear and take a lesson he might loosen up on you.  Talk to the mountain and find out about the lessons and explain that you'll take that and wear a helmet, that should help your case.

    Good luck!

  3. definitely go. skiing is extremely fun!! if you live life just thinking about the risks, then you arent going to experience anything. i say GO SKIING!! :D

  4. you could fall off the couch and die too.  personally, your father should know that really not that many people die. I think the statistic runs like 5-7 people per year die on average skiing/snowboarding.  What you should do is persuade your father, and wear a helmet when you ski, and take a ski lesson.

  5. I think your father needs to loosen up a bit.  Does he let you ride in a car, walk across the street, climb a tree, or even ride a bike?  You have just as good of a chance getting hurt or dying doing any of these things.

Skiing is a BLAST!  You are really missing out on a good oppurtunity to discover something that you AND your father could enjoy together for many years to come.  Yes you may get hurt.  You may break an arm, leg, or even get a concussion.  Chances are as a beginner, you wont be going very fast, and wont be out on the steeper stuff with out of control idiots like me.  Lots of people take their 3 year old kids skiing...there is no reason why you shouldnt be able too.

  6. i just went skiiing yesterday for the first time

it is safe and pretty easy to  get good at

not many ppl get hurt and u should b fine

it was a lot of fun

  7. father knows best.. although he defninitely shouldnt be discouraging you, there is truth in what he says.. it is risky, but really only if you try to tackle more than you can handle.. i went today, and personally didnt like it because i didnt feel like i was in control, just one of my things, i have to be able to stop and go when i want, and i didnt feel like that was happening... ur probably not a wimp like me, so ull like it.. just wear a helmet and promise ur dad u wont do any stupid..just use your head, ull be fine..if u feel like uve gotta fall,be smart about it...hop up, on the way down, transfer the weight to the midsection , lift up ur legs on the way down, having ur skies parallel to the ground, like this ====   ..  like a baseball slide sort of.. just remember above all when falling: keep the skies away from the ground; you dont want them gettin caught up and twisiting anything..have fun, be smart..

  8. You need to go skiing. People die and get hurt all the time, not just while skiing. Just wear a helmet and you'll be fine. Taking a lesson or two might not be a bad idea though.

  9. Statistically you are most likely to die of a heart attack from being an overweight, inactive, unfit couch potato. Get on those skis and rip that mountain to shreds.

  10. LOL....your dad needs to let you try it. While there are a few fatalities in the sport every year and people do get injured, the vast majority of those incidents occur because someone was skiing or snowboarding unsafely. Do accidents happen? Sure...but they happen on bikes, on skateboards, in cars, and by walking across the street too.

In 20+ years I've had one accident that I needed to come down the mountain on a snowmobile. That was when I hit a patch of ice and fell resulting in me tearing my ACL. Aside from that, I've sprained a few things and pulled a few muscles, but nothing serious.

Make a deal with your dad and tell him you will rent a helmet.
