  1. Costa Rica all the way..check out Playa Carmen in Santa Teresa / Mal Pais...AWESOME every day.

  2. I am a long time surfer born and raised in SoCal and have surfed beaches from Washington State to Argentina.I have no opinion on Spain as I have never surfed there but I have heard good things about the Canary Is.

Costa Rica has good surfing and some nice beaches but there are also many other places in Latin America with equally nice beaches along with excellent surfing conditions. It seems that there are many answers here from people who live in  Costa Rica that might be a little biased.Nothing wrong with that though.Like my friend AW, I  like Ollies point, Witches Rock,Playa Negra,Avellanes,Grande, Nosara & Matapolo.

    .

My current favorite place(s) is Peru, not only the home of the Chicama,a must see & do for any surfer, but is also a point break paradise as well (literally hundreds of 'em) inexpensive to hang out also.Best time to go to northern Peru is now, November thru March.

Brazil is hands down the best place for the variety of waves, breaks, etc.impossible for a surfer  to get bored in Brazil....and nobody does a better Carnival than Brazil. Because surfing is so popular there it can get really crowded at times.

Chile is an absolute heaven for goofy-footers but because it is on the other ocean the water is a lot colder.

In the end it doesn't really matter where you go just as long as it's somewhere with waves.

  3. Costa Rica has the most marketing in Latin America. But this does not mean that it has the best surf beaches. You can try to  go to Montañita in Ecuador, or go to Panama...

  4. Don't listen to Lola, Dude I live in Costa Rica and not b/c i live here am i saying this but Costa Rica has amazing beaches to surf in. Come here you will not regret it.

  6. Costa Rica !

According to surf magazine it is among the top three places in the world to surf along with Hawaii and Australia.

It also has the longest left hand surf in the world which is in the southern part of the country near Pavones.

Don´t forget to visit Avellanas beach which is the best kept surfing secret......... err  was............

  7. Costa Rica is a LOT cheaper than Spain, especially now with the rise in the euro.  I recall that in some places you could get a decent hotel for $5-10 a  night, although heavy tourist areas can be more expensive.

  8. Costa Rica?? what the h**l! choose Spain! lol!

  9. COSTA RICA!!!i just went ,and surfed

  10. Worldwide Costa Rica is on the top ten spots in the world to surf. Also the climate is great and the water temperature warm. There are over 200 surfing spots on both Pacific and Atlantic ocean.

Also the cost of surfing in Costa Rica is a lot cheaper than Spain.
