Last monday i had my 5th ingrown toenail removal and they were all on the same toe. It hurts so bad and i had to take a lot of time off school last year because of it, I'm going back to school for my final year in just over a week and i cant really afford to take any time off as my time off last year really affected my work. I was wondering if anyone thinks i should just get the entire nail removed??? as knowing my luck it wont be the last time i have an ingrown nail and yea i know it will be more painfull to have the nail removed but it will be better in the long run

Thanks :)

  1. My husband had a problem with ingrown toenails when he was young also. Finally, the dr. did a minor outpatient surgery where he removed the root of the toe nail on the sides of the nail. My husband hasn't had any problems since then however, he does have the scars on each side of the nail. Ask your dr. if the surgery might be a good option since this is a reoccurring problem. If you have been seeing your regular physician for the ingrown nail, you might try a podiatrist which specializes in feet. Hope this helps!

  2. It depends on what your doctor or podiatrist thinks.

You can't tell them what to do can you?

You might be able to suggest that they take the whole thing off next time ,but it isn't the preferred method of treatment.

Partial removal and antibiotics is usual.
